So much better than standard issue roll mats
The standard army issue roll mats take forever to pack up and take up a lot of space. This alternative (based on the German issue one) is so much better. Itβs slightly thinner but keeps you off the ground and a little warmer. It packs down so small so it can go in a day sack or a Bergen easily!

Superb
Maybe not full comfortable because is very thin, but is light, can carrying inside tactical backpack and also used as seating mat.

Going to try and use it for additional hammock insulation
It's difficult to rate this product as I haven't really bought it for its intended purpose.I've recently switched to hammock lightweight backpacking and wild camping, rather than the usual tent/bivvi/ground sleeping that I have done for some time. The key to hammock camping (other than trying to keep the weight down) is to keep your back and backside warm, because this is the bit that is usually pressed hard against the thin layer of material supporting you when sleeping in a hammock - and wow, does it get cold at night, particularly if there is a little cold wind blowing. So your best bet is to use an underquilt. A thick mat, either inflatable or self-inflating (or even a moderately thick closed-cell mat) will be very uncomfortable and ends up feeling like you are wrestling a crocodile in the hammock - unless you are a "dead" sleeper and don't move much. But the underquilt may not be enough. I found this out recently at about 3 C and a cool wind. Cold spots developed. As an experiment I used my thin closed-cell sit mat under my backside and found that it stopped the cold. My back was still cold because the mat was too small to go under it. It got me thinking. So I found this mat on Amazon. Now, as it is, it's too big and heavy and in any case I think it only needs to go under my back and backside. So only about 2/5 of the mat is needed. This means it will be lighter (I cut it into 2/5 one piece and 3/5 the other) and the 2/5 weighs only 192g AND it packs down very thin, so will slip inside your rucksack at the back and not take up much room. The piece is also great as a sit mat, so it means I can leave my other sit mat at home and save some weight. As it is small, it should be manageable within the hammock, but it will only be needed on cold nights (I have an insulated hammock with sewn-in underquilt). It should just be enough to keep cold spots from developing. I like the fact it is a sit-mat on the trail during the day and extra insulation at night. Also, if I can't sleep in a hammock and have to sleep on the ground, the 2/5 length will still protect my back and backside against cold and damp from the ground to some extent, combined with using the tarp to stop damp as well. Waterproofs under the legs will help too, so the mat, even though it is now modified by me to be much smaller than the manufacturer intended, will be useful in many situations and therefore lightweight, multifunctional and of small pack size.I'm inclined to add a further review after running some tests this winter.

Awesome.
Better than all inflatable matts used previously, fits neatly in your bergen or under the top flap.

Alright, but too expensive
Only just fits inside the miltec mountain rucksack pocket - uncomfortableMay be useful although very thin.Price is too high for value

Compact and sufficient for most UK camping
Offers good insulation, less faff than a roll mat

Simple and Effective
Thinner and more compact then an Issued Roll Mat, works just as well just make sure there are no large stones or branches underneath.
