Muslim Songs of the British Isles: Arranged for Schools

Rare collection of songs for English speaking Muslims
Unusual collection of Muslim Songs many of which are are based on traditional songs. As non-musician it is hard for me to visualise how these songs sound. As an English Muslim I appreciate the attempt by my Victorian and Edwardian predecessors to make Islam a part of every day life and worship for English and Western Muslims. I would like to see a more modern version with contemporary songs and perhaps an accompanying CD. Abdal Hakim Murad has produced a good collection but its appeal is limited in its present form and it it is more like an historical record rather than a practical song book.

an example of 'british islam'?
Abdul Hakim Murad is one of my fave lecturers - v v inspiring. i'd already bought this book when i realised he was the editor!many of the songs are islamic lyrics to the tunes of traditional british folk songs - fabulous for acapella singing.for those british muslims who want to express their faith through music which feels a little more natural than traditional nasheeds, take a look. we just need to someone to record them!
