Harder to use than a typical adult knife
I loved the idea of this, but suspect it's about a wash whether you're maybe better off knife-training your kid with some normal knife an adult might use, too. The safety handle where you even have a hole for the index finger so it doesn't slide onto the blade is terrific, but the rest of the knife doesn't hold up.The biggest downside of this is that it's actually harder to use for most cutting type actions you can imaging, as the blade isn't straight, but curved. It also seems less sharp than a typical knife, which might be fine if your intended use isn't really cutting difficult things like tomatoes, but rather soft things like bananas, in which case you might as well use a spoon or something similar in the first place.Again, I really want to like this product, but it doesn't feel like it delivers. If you try to chop onions on a cutting board, it's easy to use a straight knife that cuts all the way down to the board, across the whole length of the blade, and way harder to learn the kind of rotation action you need with a curved blade knife like this to cut the whole onion through, bottom to top.

Great knife for age appropriate child chef in training!!!
This is an excellent knife for a child who is ready to learn to use a real knife and already has had some experience using a plastic kids knife. This is called the step 2 knife, their step 1 knife is in fact plastic. It is well made, with a rose wood handle, sharp, cuts well, and has a finger guard (that I wouldn’t mind having to use with my knives, quite honestly). It is made well with higher quality materials and should last a long time with proper care. Definitely recommended for a child who has a little knowledge and skill under their belt (or tiny chef’s hat)!

Cheap. Awful.
Looks like it’s delaminating or something. Looks dingy.

This is not a toy. It's real and it's sharp. Supervision is important.
This is a beginners knife set to teach your tween, as young as 10 years old, knife cutting skills and safety. It isn't meant to be used without adult supervision until mastery is acquired. It is not a toy and it's not dull like a butter knife. It sliced through hard vegetables such as onions, carrots and potatoes easily. It cut through raw stew beef like butter. It was even able to make thin tomato slices without tearing or squishing them. This set includes a small stainless steal chef's knife with a guide hole to teach an inexperienced user safe finger placement for cutting. It also includes as stainless steal finger guard to protect little phalanges from accidental cuts. The knife has a sharp 3.5 " blade with a rounded tip and an 3.5 " ergonomic rosewood handle made for smaller hands. The blade is full tang meaning that the blade extends the full length of the handle making it durable. It is adorned with a fun dog face design on the blade and the finger guard is the shape of a cute panda face. The quality of both the blade and the wooden handle is nice. I think this is a great way to helping kids get acclimated with the skills necessary to help out in the kitchen doing things other than just stirring the brownie bowl. I only have one complaint. Much to my dismay the little metal label that's attached to the handle fell off during use. I think a stronger adhesive would prevent that in the future.

Great tool -Not a toy!
Our ten-year-old has had some kitchen training both at home and in culinary class. This is a well-made knife, but your child should be supervised when using it, no matter what training they've received. Our ten-year-old likes that the knife cuts precisely, and when slicing raw vegetables like peppers, it can slice them nice and thin for stir-fry dishes. It took some getting used to the finger hole, but she loves the comfortable feeling of holding the knife with the ergonomic handle designed for smaller hands. She feels confident and comfortable using this knife, but she knows that using it incorrectly can and will cause an injury. As far as the finger guard goes, this is still taking some getting used to.I like that this knife is constructed with a full-tang, so there are no worries about the blade ever separating from the handle while in use. The rounded tip offers peace of mind as well. The hole in the handle makes it easy for smaller hands to grasp. The rosewood handle adds a nice touch and sets this knife apart from others. It's a beautiful kitchen utensil that should be used with safety and supervision in mind. If you have a kid who loves to create master pieces in the kitchen or know of one who would appreciate adding this awesome knife to their kitchen utensil collection, I highly recommend the ZLemma kids knife. As for younger children with little to no kitchen experience, you may want to start them on the plastic cutting knives for children.

TROMPERIE
