No, it is not a necklace. They are beads on a string. You cut the string and the beads fall off so you can use them how you wish to use them. The string is knotted on both ends so the beads don't call off. You have to snip one end to get the beads off the string.

I don' think these would fit in your hair honestly. I mean unless you did super tiny braids. The hole size is close to the size of about 2 sewing needles put together. So I'm not sure how you would do that.
