It's a price issue
I'm giving this a 5 star because it does exactly what I need it to do at a very low price. Great value for money.Granted, I only need it for occasional use and I really would not be considering this if I were a professional, but that makes it difficult for me to fault it.Not that it doesn't have any issues. Yes, there is plenty of plastic involved but that also helps keep the weight down, and unless I get really heavy-handed with it I can't see myself breaking it any time soon. There are several hand screws for adjustment (including the handle itself which is for the vertical plane) but you just have to work these out for yourself in the absence of any instructions. Not that difficult really, just don't force anything until you've had a good think/look at what locks and unlocks the movement. It is a relatively low-precision item, so depending on the weight of the camera, if you try to get the shot level through the camera view finder, you may note that everything shifts again very slightly as soon as you let go and stop supporting it; this is particularly noticeable when you flip the camera up on the hinge from landscape to portrait orientation.Others have noted how the panning is somewhat jerky if using it for video work, and that's a fair comment, but I get by with it after a little practice, even if that application is not ideal with this tripod. My favourite feature is the ability to rapidly remove the camera from the seating on top of the tripod for quick freehold work, and then being able to instantly seat it back in again. Takes a second to do that - very handy feature that's worth the asking price alone. When completely folded it is 62cm in length and 13 cm at the widest point; approx. max circumference of 31cm. Weight is about 2lb (< 1kg).- With the legs open but not extended, the height is 58.5cm.- With legs extended it is 124cm high- The winding handle extends the neck by an additional 28cm to give a maximum height of 152cm- When the legs are extended, the distance between the centre of each leg is around 80cm, and each leg is terminated with a flat foot in a ball socket allowing for stability on uneven surfaces. It might not be perfect, full stop, but at the low asking price it's an unbelievably good compromise.

Flimsy and easy to break but does as said and matches the cost
Bought for: holding a laser level (electrician)Cons: Working in the construction industry I expect this stand to break fairly quickly as it will be thrown about and knocked from time to time. It uses small rivets to hold the struts and appears to be plastic on plastic rather than bearings for the rotation, etc, so alterations are a little jerky.Pros: The stand does exactly as described. Although flimsy, It doesn't wrobble and all the locks work fine. It is really light (same weight as a can of beer) and folds up small and neat. One of the cheapest stands at around £14Overview: If you want something tough & robust that can be treated roughly over time this isn't for you but if you want a stand that will be looked after and not thrown about then this will do the job fine.I would give it 2-3 stars if it was more expensive but at £14 (March 2023) I will give it 5 stars as it is good value for money

HamaStar tripod - the disposable option.
I've had this for about 12 months now and use it on a regular basis in all sorts of situations where you would think twice before setting up a more expensive model. The Pros:Stable and tall enough.Lightweight aluminium construction makes it easy to carry, especially as it comes with a bag with a shoulder strap.Pan and tilt head - cheap, plastic and a bit rough; but it works.Removable quick-release shoe - stays screwed to the underside of your camera.Spirit level - not a replacement for looking through the eyepiece; but it works.Hook; greatly adds to the stability - I usually hang my camera bag on it - you could also do the trick of using a loop of string (or bungy cord) round the hook and trapped under your foot, to clamp it down in high winds.Cheap: My tripod gets stood in sand, river mud, urban refuse, the Sea and a variety of other unpleasant and damaging environments - I don't care, I want that shot. Afterwards, I can pressure wash the crud off it without worrying about the cost when it gets knackered.Yes it's nasty and plastic - but what do you want for 12 quid? The Cons. You need to weigh it down in anything more than a stiff breeze. Not very smooth for video panning. You have to treat the leg tabs with respect - force them and they WILL break; they are only thin.Limited lifespan in poor environments - perhaps unsurprisingly.Conclusion.For me, it works very well indeed; light enough to carry around all day along with all the other stuff.Works well enough, especially when weighed down on the hook. Not the end of the world if it gets foul crud all over it.
