Very good but very expensive!
The iron is very impressive, it does what it says on the box (almost) and makes ironing less of a chore. It did heat up within 2 minutes and I had steam whenever I needed it. It is nice that you can put the iron down and leave it without fear of burning the board cover. It is also light and glides easily over the fabric.Having had a steam generator iron for nearly 10 years (Tefal) I knew what to expect in terms of noise and a wet floor, and despite this Philips iron being listed as silent steam it is not silent, as with all steam generators there is a lot of noise as the appliance moves water into the boiler (which happens quite often) and the steam coming from the iron as you use it is not ‘silent’, so don’t buy it and expect it to be noise free. The wet floor is something that you have to live with if you use a steam generator, I’m lucky that I use mine in the kitchen that has a tiled floor, if you want to iron in a carpeted room you’ll need to put a waterproof sheet down to catch the drips. Good ventilation is also a pre requisite - the steam does tend to fog up the room! You’ll also need to wipe down the board before you put it away.Having had a Tefal with an automated retractable lead and plug I will have to get used to manually folding the lead on this one to stow it away - not a major thing but it would be nice if Philips could follow Tefal in this, especially given the very high price that they are charging.I would definitely recommend the iron but its price is high which is my only criticism.

The steam generator iron
I have had 4 steam generator irons since 2003, all of them top of the range. I need to get a new one in May, so I though I would buy a mid range thinking that it would be as good as my last 2 Philips irons.I bought the Philips Steam Generator Iron model GC7840/26. It so not as good as my last 2 irons, that a few days I had had enough, I order the Philips Philips Steam Generator Iron model GC9682/86. It is by far the best iron I have ever used. It is so much better than my old one, lighter iron, it stops steam as soon as you put it on the base, much easier to fill water tank, and most importantly does an amazing job!!

The Rolls -Royce of steam generators. Fabulous machine
Philips Elite is the best machine out there right now. ~ there no garment that this equipment will not ironThey are expensive but it’s worth every single penny.Originally I bought a Tefal on Amazon but it was useless ~ I know my steam generators been in the garment industry for 30 years so I know my machines.I tried the Tefal out and promptly returned it ~ not fit for purpose.I spent an extra £100 and got the top of the range Philips. The Rolls-Royce of steam generators and absolute dream to use and no garment is troublesome for the Philips

It’s great iron very light in use
Minus is that it gives you a lot of water spots ( like condensation from the steam)So eventually some of your clothes are wet

Easy to use, simple de-calc
My last iron was a Tefal I had for 25 years. This one I think is a great investment it is really nice to use and the technology works effortlessly. It is light, does not leave wet streaks under steam. And the 'de-calc' function is very easy. I live in London a heavy Lime area so I do not use tap water, I use mineral drinking water from the supermarket. Great Product.

Best steam generator ever, well worth the money
I have had many steam generators over the last decade from morphy Richards to tefal, the latter being my recent one, I only had the tefal one for a few years before it started spitting out brown stuff all over the clothes I was ironing, it had to be the worst steam generator that I had ever had and I didn’t want to make the same mistake again so I researched and did my homework before I made my decision on this Philips one, yes it’s a bit on the pricey side but in my opinion it is worth every penny spent, it’s absolutely amazing, I thought I wouldn’t like the fact that you couldn’t stand it up on the ironing board as I did that with all my others but you get used to leaving it face down on the ironing board as the intelligent system recognises that you’re not moving it so there’s no chance of burning the cover, you have the choice to let the iron put the steam out for you by pressing the on button for two seconds until it lights up white, then you press the button on top till that turns white, all you have to do is start ironing, the steam that it generates is outstanding, the only thing with so much steam is that I have to put a waterproof sheet down on the floor underneath my ironing board to catch the drips but the pros to this product outweighs the cons, I can’t sing this irons praises enough, the best steam generator I’ve ever, ever had, I absolutely love it, now ironing is a pleasure and not a chore!

Excellent product
The Phillips steam generator iron is an excellent product. Mak's fast work of all your ironing is truly a great product. Even if you are not good at ironing, it will not burn your clothes. If you are distracted and leave the iron, it turns itself off automatically. Brilliant would always recommend.
