Asian Power Devices WA-18G12U Power Adapter for Select WD External Hard Drives

Ordered a couple of these as spares because they have a special sized plug. All tested and worked as expected. Theses ship in sealed bags and appear to be repackaged, since some cables by have knots in them and they are not consistently wrapped/tied.Special notes:Most 2 amp adapters have a smaller inner diameter, these have a larger one and a slightly smaller outer diameter. Which means that they fit more unusual things that have bigger center pins and smaller outer diameters.I'll probably measure the inner and outer diameters when I get a minute.From memory the outer should be 5.0mm, 5.5mm length, inner should be 2.5mmThese have a roughly 4-5' cable length.

it works, but it was a little large and i had to push fairly hard to get it to fit in my WDlive.

This worked great for my Seagate External drive. As with many other reviews, the connector pin didn't fit so I spliced on my old pin. Keep in mind since you are buying a new power supply it means your hard drive is a few years old and the odds are low that any power supply you buy today will have a matching connector pin.Just look at the make, model number and milliamp rating on your old power supply and find a match. No matter what you buy you will probably be splicing on your old connector.This particular device matched my Seagate power supply exactly (same manufacturer and exact same model number) but still the connector pin didn't fit. It works great with the old pin connected.

I'm sure the power adapter works fine. However, it did NOT fit the receptacle of my WD 2TB Elements drive. So, try another adapter if thats what you're looking for.

My original equipment power supply for my WD 1TB MyBook external drive is identical looking to this one complete with the same Asian Power Devices label and model number WA-18G12U. Even the connector has the same molding marks on the plastic. The outside diameter of the plug is the same 5.5mm, UNFORTUNATELY, the inside diameter of the original plug is 2.5mm and fits the 2.5mm post inside the jack but the inside diameter of the one purchased from Amazon is 2.1mm and it will not fit on the 2.5mm post of the jack.So, electronically, it's a fine price for a powersupply that LOOKS identical and has a model number identical to the WD original ps. It just doesn't work with the external drive. What a major pain!Added in edit:Buying a 2.5mm x 5.5mm plug can be hard. You can find online sources that will charge you 85 cents to $1.49 for a plug but then charge you $9 for shipping. Grrr, to fix a $6.49 power supply? I hesitated on going to Radio Shack since I had used the same plug spec to try to repair a computer power cord with an earlier Radio Shack plug and the plug was woefully awful and I couldn't get a useful plug from two in the bag.After getting the wrong size from an Ebay seller in spite of their claim that it was 2.5mm x 5.5mm I stopped in at Radio Shack and they actually had the plug in a newer much more robust model. A little solder, heat shrink tubing and bingo--done and fixed.Now I'm a highly experienced electronics solderer and I could simply test with a VOM the polarity of the cut cord and so on. The average user may not find this interesting but the new version of the 2.5mm x 5.5mm plug at Radio Shack is worth it for fixing this inexpensive PS for the models of WD external drives that need that larger plug. RS calls it "type N" the 2.1mm x 5.5mm is "type M."

I purchased a recertified WD TV Live Streaming media player and it arrived with a defective power supply. I ordered this supply as it was the same model number and was a good price. It arrived but would not fit the power connection on the back of the media player. Using a digital caliper I measured the internal diameter of the plug on the defective supply (which fit the media player) and measured 2.53mm. The new supply I.D. measured 2.21mm. I cut both power connectors off and spliced the larger I.D. on to the good supply. Now everything is working fine. Someone mentioned in the comments below that this supply worked as a replacement on their WD TV Live, unfortunately not in my case...but then there's no mention of WD TV Live as this being a replacement for.

Contrary to the product description, the DC connector is too small to fit WD My Book Essential 2TB <WDBACWxxxx>. Otherwise, the product is as pictured, and the delivery was quick via Amazon prime. I was able to return this item to Amazon postage paid because of the wrong description.For those who are desperate to replace their adapters as I did, I was able to find another adapter by Pwr+ that fits my HDD. No need to despair!

I have a WD My Book, with a lot of media on it. All of a sudden, my AC Adaptor fried on me. This arrived in the mail very quickly, and worked. It was cheap enough that I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I need it, and it saved a lot of data. It looks very thin, so I'm a little hesitant to wrap it up too tight if I'm taking it anywhere. Then again, if it stops working, I could always just get another one.
