Rosaline Cash is still fine too.
Maaaaan, Bernie Casey is my dude! Rosaline Cash is still fine too...lol. This movie is good. Seen it before, but wanted to buy (for the right price). I'm a big Blaxploitation fan and my library is deep. Gotta add this to your collection if you have one. Acting is decent, the storyline is obvious, but its a dope (urban) spin on the Jekyll & Hyde story.

A well meaning doctor turns into a white monster.
Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde is a film directed by William Crain (Blacula). Bernie Casey stars as Dr. Black, a well meaning Scientist and clinic doctor who's researching a new serum. Unfortunately, it has some nasty side effects when he tests it on some og his patients. Instead of doing more testing, Dr. Black tries it on himself and becomes a mean and irritable white monster who detests the crime in the slums of Watts. Whenever he turns into the monster, Dr. Black lays waste to the local pimps and hoes. Can anyone stop his reign of terror? Rosalind Cash and Ji-Tu Cumbuka co-star,The version I saw was the 35th anniversary digitally restored print. Compared to the other prints I have seen it looks real good but since it was shot on low grade film you can only do so much with the picture quality. I enjoyed this movie because it's cheesy, hokey and entertaining. This is a b-movie so keep this in mind when you're watching it. Bernie Casey is creepy as the monster but the star of the show is Ji-Tu Cumbuka as the no nonsense Lt. Jackson. Not only does he have the best lines, but it's one of a few times he plays a good guy. If you enjoy "blackspolitation" films or a fan of Blacula then you'll want to watch one.

Fun Black Exploitation film.
This film came out at the height of the Black action film era. This one, the two Blacula films and Blackstein are the only sci-fi , horror films of that era except for a few others. This is one that any collector of Black action films should have.

A Great Collector's Item
Movies have changed a lot since this film was made, and it is obviously trying to capitalize on the success of Blacula, but that doesn't mean that it's all bad. It's not the best blaxploitation horror film, but it at least it is fun to watch. There is an undercurrent about the ideas of duality that may or may not be intentional. The theme of the movie really highlights these dynamics of African American life at the time.If you are a collector, this is definitely something you are going to want for your collection, but if you are looking for a horror experience, you may be disappointed

Simply a black version from the original monster favorite with Bernie Casey and Rosalind Cash
Simply a black version from the original monster favorite with Bernie Casey and Rosalind Cash. The transfer is crisp and there are a few trailers from other blaxploitation films.

A SCREAMIN' DEMON RAGES INSIDE
I'm really disappointed in the picture and sound quality of this 35th Anniversary DVD release from VCI entertainment. I've bought a number of their DVD's in the past and I can definitely say this DVD isn't their finest effort. The 1.78:1 Anamorphic Widescreen picture contains lines and minor speckling about half way through the film. The picture seems washed out at times and the colors are muted. The Dolby Digital 2.0 sound doesn't get much better on this DVD release either. The sound is plagued with noticeable crackling throughout. I also noticed a drop in volume here and there as well. It's as if the DVD video transfer came directly from a VHS tape. Disc packaging artwork and disc artwork is well done.Despite all the problems with the picture and sound quality which I`d rate about 6/10, this film is still watchable. I think fans of low budget B-movies and 70's Blaxploitation films will still get a kick out of Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde. You'd think a 35th Anniversary DVD would be packed with special features, its not. The only bonus feature found on this DVD is the trailer. While devoting all his time and energy towards an experimental serum for liver damage patients prominent scientist Dr. Henry Pryde (Bernie Casey) stumbles across the serums real secret. It seems that his special serum has the ability to reverse the effects of liver damage in patients and genetically mutate anything it's tested on. The problem for Dr. Pryde is that he needs a living human subject to test his serum on, so he begins a series of unorthodox experiments on himself to test the serum. Soon after injecting himself, Dr. Pryde experiences the serums devastating side effects as he turns into an albino zombie and goes on a killing spree. Now the Pimps, Johns and Hookers in the Watts ghetto of L.A. have something to really fear. Welcome to Dr. Black, Mr.Hyde AKA The Watts Monster. The Cast:Dr. Pryde .... Kinda disappointing
I was hoping for all out stupid given the title, but I got a mostly competent movie. It was dumb, but not so bad it's good. It wasn't good but also not boring.I did find it hilarious that the Mr Hyde syrum turned a black dude into a black guy with white makeup and a stupid looking forehead, with super powers. It wasn't dull, it wasn't great, it had some silly and wtf moments but all in all, forgettable. Also they steal the ending from the original King Kong. Kinda an odd choice.I don't regretted watching it, but likely will never watch it again.
