Life of Fred--Cats

Math is fun...really!
The Life of Fred books are wonderful. Both of my kids (9 yr old twins) love these books. The stories are unexpected and thought-provoking. Concepts are introduced in the narrative so they make sense and are more easily remembered. The books explore number in use, not just theoretical constructs. We have fun reading these together and working through the problems. I can't say enough good things about this series--wish I had learned math this way. But wait--I am re-learning along with my kids! Wonderful!

Fun, "outside the box" math that kids love!
My 3rd grader loves the Life of Fred series- don't know if I'm still ready to trust it as stand-alone, but she does love them and begs to do her Math every day as it's so engaging to her. Can be read aloud by parent, or enjoyed as a stand-alone reader for kids. Each book is a story that weaves math concepts all throughout (regardless of the "level"), and each chapter ends with less than 10 questions to test the student's understanding. Fun and engaging.

Helps reduce math-phobia
My son dreads math but he loves to read and he especially enjoys the style and sense of humor of the Life of Fred series. This was the first book I purchased. We have several now and while they were intended to be an after-school supplement, I often find these books in his room as he enjoys reading them for fun in his spare time. There aren't many exercises at the end of each chapter so when we use them for after-school work, I draft my own worksheets based on the material in the chapter and it works great.

My children love this math series!
I wasn't sure if I liked how this author approached math - it seemed so 'untraditional'. But the proof is in the pudding. My children love this series, and actually argue who gets to do math next! I supplement with flashcards and some Khan academy as well. I also use Teaching Textbooks, but I plan to buy every single Life of Fred book for them because it is their favorite math and helps with the concepts.Side note: this particular copy (Cats) was printed upside down in the cover. Not a big deal, I just turn the book over to read it, but thought I would make a note.

great book for expanding on math
My son loves these books. A very unique perspective. I only give it it 4 stars because for the price it is expensive. You will go through the book in a month and be ready for the next one.

Life of Fred is Awesome!
My kids both enjoy the Life of Fred books, I highly recommend them. My kids are 6 and 10, and they both are interested, and ask for a Life of Fred lesson every day. In fact, they don't want to stop, it always 'one more chapter, please!'

Fan of Life of Fred series
No complaints, thank you! I use these in our homeschooling to supplement their learning. I think it adds a bit of fun and "out of the box" challenge to the thinking and learning process.
