A little bit too OTT but worthy film
I decided to buy this and watch again as the first time I felt it was a bit too slow. I quite like films related to 'war dog heroes' and this isn't that bad. Rex is a German Shepard who is handed over to newly trained dog handler Levy (Kate Mara) who is expected to use Rex to go with the other American soldiers to track down bombs. She's naturally afraid of Rex (given his strong willed nature I'd be scared too) but the two form a bond and it's shown how dedicated Rex is when during an attack on a routine patrol Rex jumps on Levy and protects her, while wounding himself. It's based on true story yet I always feel the American's go slightly over board with the acting. I don't really notice the other unfamiliar cast members (Harry Potter's Draco Tom Felton) appears as a dog handler not quite noticeable with the army gear and cap. Rex performs well at all his duties and the film does try to be based on him, yet it does go slow sometimes. I read a book about Buster, another war dog serving in Afghanistan which is good, don't know if it is a film but there should be more films like Rex as it does show how well dogs did and even saved lives, whether it be a man or woman soldier.

Human kinds best friend
Brillant dog handlers best friend the initial fight of a young woman coming to terms with the life and situation she is in...to a loner and war dog handler. A great movie bring back to us the sadness of war and the lives within with wars that beset this world of ours

Dull
This was disappointing. I found the entire film tedious and the direction was really boring. A good story badly told. Bland from start to finish.

If u love german shepherds, watch it
I like the idea of the movie, but it was a bit without deepness on few levels – plot and the play itself. It didnt hit really that part in my heart, where I would be shaken up.If you wanna have more of German Shepherd, watch Komissar Rex series made by Austrians 20 years ago. It is very satisfying. It has it all what it takes to be a German Shepherd, well except army environment.

Enjoyable tearjerker - if you like dogs
Well-made and well-structured. The 'based on a true story' appeal is here and there is plenty for everybody to enjoy although it sort of loses its way a little in the second half....having said that, I would recommend it as a tribute for all those who serve their country on two legs or four.

If you love dogs........
.... then this is a 5-star tear jerker. Not really a dog lover, but watched with my hubby and we were engaged throughout the whole film. No spoliers here; hire it for yourself. It was made even better by the fact that it was based on a true story.

Loyalties Tested.
Saw the trailer and decided to buy the DVD. It was good and solid. Dialogue was a bit wonky but the sentiments were good and the cast were accomplished and "Rex" was the real star. He must have an unbeleavable trainer and Kate Mara seemed to enjoy the part.Although this film is primarily for American audiences it should resonate with ones in the UK.

ANIMAL LOVERS FILM
I'M AN ANIMAL LOVER SO A FILM WITH ANIMALS IN IS A PERFECT MOVIE FOR ME. MY THREE FAV DOGS ARE SPRINGER SPANIAL, ALSATION AND LABRADOR, SO THIS IS ONE FILM I WAS CERTAINLY GOING TO LIKE BEFOR WATCHING. THIS IS CERTAINLY BETTER THAN IMAGINED IT WOULD BE. I COULD WACH IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND NOT GET BORED WITH IT. I THINK THIS IS AN ANIMAL LOVERS MOVIE, IT TUGS AT YOUR HEART STRINGS.
