Bumper Dummies edition that covers all bases
Bumper Dummies edition that covers all bases and in the doorstop league of books, is pretty good value all told considering the content you get here. Delivered with the usual Dummies flair for clear but detailed and always relevant info, relayed in a lively and accessible way with plenty of key points and tips along the way, this is a very useful guide to understanding all the angles of career development. Good stuff.

A one-stop-shop career guide
This chunky tome covers every aspect of career development anyone could ever want. In just over 600 pages it digs into mindfulness (being aware of what you are doing), project manegement, time management, negotiation, and leadership. It also takes a detailed look at communication: presentation skills, and business writing. It does this by breaking these nebulous subjects into specific topics, with checklists, notes and advice. Tgis makes it something you can dip into to find what you want aty any given time. Some of the content is of the "well der!" variety of commonsense, but much of it attempts to offer fresh insight into, and offer useful skills for, how to perform better in the workplace. To take the communications topics, for example, it looks at how to communicate effectively to get results, be it negotiation, giving orders, presenting plans and ideas, or steering matters your way. It does this without ever descending into cheesy sales rep territory, or making you look like a self-serving berk who has read a "how to get ahead in business" book. It offers up some surprisingly useful tactics for propelling you, and your business, forward profesisonally. It's big book, and throws at you a lot of text, but it is very much a one-stop-shop for shorty-term and long-term career development tactics.

Excellent resource for working people and students
Another triumph from the For Dummies bookshelf. This Career Development umbrella of a title really does what it says - covers the most important skills you need to advance your career - and does it so very well.. As always, the book is very approachable and friendly, so very easy to read and understand, written by experts in the field, and very comprehensive. It is a 7-in-1 book which covers: Mindfulness, Project Management, Leadership, Time Management, Business Writing, Presentations and Negotiation. Within each section you get both the theory and practice with many examples in context and a very human understanding of our fears and experiences - providing a supportive framework to walk you through each concept until it is fully understood. I found it very beneficial as a university student as many of the skills are very relevant to uni work.

Helping you to aim high
This is a useful guide book for anyone setting out on a new career or if they are in the process of changing the direction of their career. Being in the Dummies series, it follows the well-known format and is written clearly with helpful diagrams and illustrations throughout. It is broken down into general sections like Time Management, Project Management and Mindfulness – all key areas to consider when reevaluating your career choices or just trying to get down that road at a quicker pace. Students who are on the cusp of leaving education and heading out into the big wide world of work will find this particularly useful as it breaks down each area of challenges into pragmatic chunks. Throughout the book it encourages a mind-set that is focused on self-discipline and working towards goal-orientated outcomes. If this is a style of thinking/working that doesn’t come easily to you, then this is a concise handbook to help you retrain yourself.

An excellent read for anyone entering the modern workplace
This now classic text represents a handy volume to have on your shelf, whether you are a student or someone who s just interested, Following the classic design for 'dummies' guides, this book makes great use of headings and sub- headings, text boxes, inset text, illustrations and tables. Basically this book has had a lot of time spent on removing obstacles so you can see the text on the page, and it does this very well. This book has a couple of distinct groups that will love it - those wanting to develop their leadership skills, and those wanting to develop their own career. For both groups this scratches the itch and offers a lot of help long the way, seeking to professionalise the unprofessional!Starting with a discussion of mindfulness in the workplace, the book moves onto project management and leadership. There s then a discussion of time management and writing for business, including emails. Then there is much discussion of presentations and the skills necessary to communicate to a team before a great section on negotiation - setting goals, asking the right questions and closing deals. This is a compendium, which could have been two books, but is fortunately blended well into one. An excellent read for anyone in or entering the modern workplace.
