I love Stevie and the mysteries she solves! Nine Liars is my favorite one so far! Stevie is missing David while he’s in London. David convinces her to do a study abroad with their friends. While in London David’s friend asks for Stevie’s help. Her aunt was involved in a cold case, 9 friends go to the countryside only some of them survive. Is this a classic case of burglary or do the nine know more then they have said? I enjoyed Stevie getting to see another place, the references to London and England were fun! There were twists and turns, plenty of intrigue, and this mystery was deeply personal! I of course loved Nate, Vi, Janelle, and David as always! I also enjoyed the nines backstory they were all very interesting characters! Izzy was also a really fun addition to the group! And the ending left me heartbroken! There has to be a sixth book! An enjoyable mystery that I couldn’t put down! Highly recommend if you like mysteries, especially if you have enjoyed Stevie’s journeys from the beginning! Can’t wait to read it again! Review: A Fun Mystery with All Your Favorite Characters - I’ve got a lot to say about this book. First, it was way better than The Box in the Woods, in my opinion. I will have to get into spoilers for Nine Liars because I can’t help myself, but first I’ll talk about all the good things without spoiling the book. So, the writing, as always, is superb. The mystery was woven together so well that I’m pretty sure Maureen Johnson was born to write about murders. The only real problem I had with it was it was such a slow start. I didn’t feel super invested in the mystery until more than halfway through the book. Once I got invested, though, I was hooked until the end. I also didn’t guess who the murderer was, which was pretty nice. Obviously we’re back with the same fun characters as before. I love David but I especially love all things Stevie. Yes, sometimes she’s toxic and makes monumentally bad decisions, but she is unapologetically herself and is a BADASS. I love her for it. Like I said earlier, my only huge qualm with this novel is how slow the mystery started and was paced. Everything interesting happened in the last part of the book. Overall, this book was the perfect cozy mystery for Christmas break and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though it took me a little longer to get through this than I’d hoped (anyone else still wrapped up in Christmas get-togethers??), it was still a really great read and won’t disappoint those who loved Truly Devious and the rest of the series. Favorite quote: “I’ve got a murder mansion, a house full of suspects, a pile of evidence, and nothing.”

That ending!!!
I've been hooked on the Truly Devious series since the first book. Honestly I wish I could crawl inside the pages and just live in its world, and I feel like the series hasn't lost its appeal even though the initial mystery and story line has been wrapped up. The continuation of the last two books just works- I like how it seems to be branching out into a general mystery series with the same cast of characters that you have already grown to know and love.

Not My Favorite in the Series
2.5 stars rounded up to 3. Nine Liars was my first book of the year for the Unhinged Reading Challenge, and it was mediocre at best. I really enjoy this series as a whole, but this feels like the weakest entry for sure. A trip to London and the opportunity to solve a murder should have been a slam dunk for this group dynamic, but it was kind of boring. The actual murder mystery was shoved into the last 15% of the book and it was so rushed. Stevie was the most insufferable whiner, and I was so tired of listening to her complain about things and pine after David (who isn’t all that great to begin with). I waited a long time to read this book after buying it, and now I don’t really feel bad for doing so. I’m glad I can go back to the rest of the books in the series and enjoy them, at least!

3.5 Stars
My teen is giving this one 3.5 stars. They said they liked it, but it was more romance heavy than mystery heavy. The opposite was true in the other books. They also said they wished the end was slightly different. But overall, it was a good book.

Another great Stevie Bell mystery!
Wherever Stevie Bell goes, danger finds her. A trip abroad to study in London is no different. What she wants is time with her boyfriend David. What she gets is an unsolved crime from 1995 and a murderer in her midst. I love books that have relatable characters, take me to interesting places, and keep me guessing. This book checks all the boxes. Plus, it has a cozy English manor and British words like twee and snogging! Reading Nine Liars was the perfect way to start the year.

Interesting
Liked most of the book, envious a cliffhanger. Must admit that I skimmed several pages. Half way through was bigger down so ranked up skimming. Got better again and kept after it. Will give earlier books a try, but not right now.

Love this series: love this book
Really love this series. This one is a closed area murder mystery in England - and so much. I actually had to listen to Blur and Oasis afterwards just to understand the ambience. The original murder takes place in the 1990s, and Stevie Bell is asked to figure it out - and then more mayhem ensues.

enjoyed this next one in the Stevie Bell series

Good young adult murder mystery book. 5th of the series (Truly Devious). My favorite so far. I really like the writing style of Maureen Jonhson... Including her very imperfect characters (no teen Barbies in there!) Plus: Extra Bargain on the hard cover edition!! Hoping there will be a 6th book in this series.

I am mildly obsessed with the Truly Devious mysteries and it was great to read an English country house one. The only downside is the cliffhanger ending so the wait for book 6 seems interminable

It was good. I read the book in a day or two, so obviously I enjoyed it. Was a bit bored at times with the present-day stuff, and way more interested in the flashback chapters; wish there'd been more of those. I also guessed the perpetrator quite early on, and no, I usually don't, at least as quickly. The ending was a bit disappointing, it just fell flat somehow. So it was a quick enjoyable book, but I was especting more

Nine Liars by Maureen Johnson is another mystery that follows the same main character, Stevie Bell, from the Truly Devious series. This time, Stevie and her friends are in London for a study trip. What starts as a fun trip turns serious when Stevie learns about an old murder case... a group of college friends, a party in the woods, and two people found dead the next morning. The story moves between the past and the present, slowly uncovering what really happened. It has mystery, secrets, friendship drama, and Maureen Johnson’s usual smart humor. If you liked the Truly Devious books, you’ll enjoy this one too. It’s an exciting and clever mystery that keeps you guessing till the end.
