It's my fault for not reading carefully enough but the bowls are silicone not the usual wood. Sadly I bought it specifically for the bowls.The jar and metal dough scrape are great. This is a perfectly acceptable starter set but the silicone bowls make it feel cheap. I would say there are better options out there but there is nothing wrong with this set if you prefer the non traditional, easier to clean bowls.

My son recently decided he wanted to learn how to make sourdough. I have a neighbor who makes really good bread. I told her about his interest and she said she would teach him.So each night she invited him over and showed him another step, having him help and learn as she did things. Then finally he came home with his first loaf.She talked about some tools he should find to be able to easily do what she showed him.This set has most everything he needs and more. It just so happens that it's his birthday this month so it was good timing to get him this as a birthday gift.I told my neighbor about it and she was really interested for herself because there's some things she doesn't have.She had been humming and hawing over whether she needed proofing bowls. She's also never seen a proofing jar. She's always used a canning jar and had to try and mark it somehow.So I decided to give her a gift too.So far I'm very happy about this fun kit.

Works as advertised. Plastic seems a little cheap, but gets the job done.

Sourdough is all the rage in this day and age. It’s near that kits are available that have almost everything you need in them. The baskets this set comes with are silicone and they collapse down to store. It’s nice they get flat, but I’m unsure about how much rise/proof the dough gets in a non-breathable basket. The slender spatula is really nice to have because it reaches into to jar easily.

The media could not be loaded.  This sourdough bread baking kit has more than I would have expected for a starter kit. They have very good instructions on how to start the starter, and how to make the dough. There are two thermometers, which read in both Celsius and Fahrenheit.There is a jar for placing the starter and ways to measure it. There’s also a band to go around the jar so that I remember when I have fed it last.There is a fabric cover for the jar to allow air in when fermentation is happening.There are two bowls for baking and rising. Both of these are collapsible, which I find delightful!There is also a metal scraper for dividing and shaping the dough.There are two silicone tools, one is a brush, the other a narrow spatula.There is a trimming knife, which comes with five replaceable blades. I kind of liked how they packaged each of the blades, individually in paper and then in it’s own little miniature envelope.Although I have been a bread baker for years, I have never made sourdough bread, and I’m so excited to get started!* UPDATE: Day 2 of my starter, and it has not budged. I think my house may be too cold. I'm placing it on the heat vent instead of the window sill. Will post any relevant or interesting developments...
