I've recently started taking various supplements, including two Omega-3 Fish Oil products - this OmegaVia EPA 500 mg supplement, and another product from OmegaVia - their higher dosage supplement which contains a total of 1105 mg Omega-3 (780 mg EPA, 260 mg DHA, and 65 mg 'other' Omega-3) . The various forms of Omega-3 are all needed in order to obtain the desired benefits, and this product adds to the EPA form of Omega-3 also provided in the other OmegaVia product to provide a very effective total dosage of all forms of Omega-3. I take one gel of each daily. There are a wide variety of Omega-3 supplement products available on Amazon and elsewhere. I selected this product for the following reasons: - this Omega-3 supplement is independently tested for purity and potency by IFOS - the "International Fish Oil Standards Program" - to provide assurance that it contains what is claimed. I feel that this is very important. - this is a US-made product - percentage of EPA Omega-3 per capsule is very high (87%) so that the capsule size is not overly large in order to contain the amount of fish oil and Omega-3 to be delivered - capsules are enteric coated - cost per capsule is reasonable and competitive For a very comprehensive technical comparison of this product to other Omega-3 supplements available on Amazon, I recommend reading RWM's review. He has provided a very extensive analysis. I'm also impressed that OmegaVia has a very informative website with considerable information on the company and its products (the website does not yet include this EPA 500 product, which is new, but the company has assured me that it will be updated to include information on this product shortly). The company executives are all identified, the company address is given, and contact information is provided. This is a welcome display of transparency in an industry where many companies seem to be selling questionable products and provide very limited information regarding their operations. The company also sells direct from their website - pricing is competitive with Amazon if you order multiple quantities, and shipping is free. I have not yet used these supplements for sufficient time to determine whether or not they are effective in reducing my triglycerides as claimed. I do not have a triglycerides problem but decided to take supplements as part of an overall program to improve my health and avoid problems as I grow older. I will update this review in 6 months or so if there is anything significant to mention regarding any effect I may see in my own health.

My last bloodwork included triglycerides and cholesterol and both were elevated. My family has a history of elevated cholesterol. From what I've read, it's best to stay away from DHA if your cholesterol or triglycerides are elevated. I am firmly against statin drugs, too. There are some prescription drugs that contain fish oil, but I decided to try OTC. I found this that got really good reviews. I have not yet gotten my cholesterol tested, so I can't say if it worked for that yet, or not, but it has helped with my skin and hair. Best of all, it's easy to swallow and doesn't have any fishy aftertaste. ETA: The most valuable result from this fish oil that I have seen is the relief from my chronic dry eyes and blepharitis! In November, I developed a disgusting stye and pink eye in my right eye. The pink eye went away with medication but the stye stuck around because my Meibomian glands were clogged. On a whim, I took this fish oil before I had an appointment for a steroid shot to relieve the stye for good. I did not want the shot so I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed that the stye went away! I stopped taking it for about a week recently and the stye started reforming. Once I started taking the fish oil again, the stye immediately went away.

Exceptional quality exceptionally pure EPA only. This is a good non-pharmaceutical replacement for the pharmaceutical known as Vascepa which was studied and used in two clinical trials, the REDUCE-IT trial and the EVAPORATE trial. When you consider its use, bear in mind that it is not regulated to pharmaceutical standards but for non-prescription purposes it is very good for heart health.

Several years ago I became concerned about my triglyceride levels. After seeing information in an ad on my doctor's office wall about for a very expensive prescription form of pharmaceutical grade fish oil (which is supposed to help lower triglycerides) I sought information about the product to see what its ingredients were. My literature search pointed out that purified EPA, the fraction of fish oil that is the most beneficial in lowering triglycerides, was the main ingredient. During the literature search I also found out that fish oil contained mercury that was present in the fish before processing and concentration. The pharmaceutical grade fish oil is steam distilled to remove the mercury. I compared the pharmaceutical grade fish oil with numerous other OTC fish oils for sale. OmegaVia EPA 500 was the one that seemed to most closely resemble the expensive pharmaceutical oil in its properties and claimed positive benefits. I can't claim from a scientific basis that OmegaVia has led to a lowering of my triglycerides but they have gone down to a safe level. I was advised by my doctor to reduce or cut out red meat in my diet, and to do more aerobic exercise, both of which may have positively affected my triglyceride levels. However, I am continuing to take OmegiaVia EPA 500 because research suggests the EPA form of fish oil may have positive benefits to mental health and joint health, and because it is much cheaper than the pharmaceutic brand with similar ingredients.
