Delightful!
Every now and then, a story comes along that is a sheer pleasure to read, for various reasons. A fan of the mid twentieth century romantic suspense or gothic should enjoy these brief plunged into terror and self rescue, with lighthearted touches of humor. The feisty mothers are a fun reminder of female independence generations ago, and, in "The Lost One," absolutely hilarious. Classic Stewart.

I have loved Mary Stewart's books since I was a teenager so this one felt like a fresh taste of my childhood, since I'd never read it before.
This is 2 short stories and a preview of 'This Rough Magic' one of my favorites by Mary. The second story 'The lost one' was shorter and humorous but not what I would think of associating as Mary Stewart, I would give it a generous 3 stars. The first story was the longer of the 2, though still short, and better developed. All in all it was a lovely little story, with a little mystery, humor and Mary's trademark vague romance. I liked it a lot and would say it's worth 4 stars, this is a little because of the nostalgia of it but I do think it's worth the time and especially if you are a fan worth the 5 buck spent.

Deja vue all over again
Read the first story when it appeared in a magazine soooo many years ago LOL . Nice to find it again. Amazing how strong a short story can be at the hands of a master.

A fun read
It's Mary Stewart. There is no other like her. Timeless and endearing, her stories are all page turners. They transport me to foreign and romantic places as she weaves her magic.

Great find for a Mary Stewart fan
For a Mary Stewart fan, finding two new stories, after all this time, was a joy. I won't go into details about the plot because they can be found in other places. I will warn potential readers that these are more short stories than novellas. I believe The Lost One is my favorite of the two, because it contains not only a bit of mystery, but the typical Mary Stewart humor and her excellent description of characters. The border collie is my favorite character and the true heroine. Any reader expecting a book will be disappointed, so enjoy them for typical short stories of the period.

Complex Plot Handled By a Pro!
Having just recently discovered the writings of Mary Stewart, I was in awe of her apparently effortless handling of intricate plot structures and turning them into fascinating, fun reads of mystery with characters that seem to walk off the page and into your heart. Will definitely read more of her books.

I wasn't expecting this!
What a rare and wonderful pleasure to read some “new” Mary Stewart after all these years. I started reading her in high school and have devoured her words, at intervals, all my life. I was so sad when she died and I realized there wouldn’t be any more. And now there are. There aren’t enough of them, for sure, but these two stories are so beautifully written, the descriptions so vivid, the dialogue so delightful, that I’ll gladly take what I can get. It made me want to go back and reread all of her books again. What a lovely body of work she left for us. I’m so happy they’re available in Kindle and I hope a whole new generation of readers discovers Mary Stewart.

A Rare Treat
I have been looking for a copy of 'The Wind...' for many years having borrowed it from the library 40 years ago. So it was a thrill to see it on Kindle at a reasonable price. It is an interesting, if too short, read with Lady Stewart's trademark themes in place (stunning location, danger, resourceful heroine and Darcy like hero etc ) and for aficionados even a character from another book is name-checked!The Lost one is something different to the usual - definitely a short story. It was amazing to read something new by this author. There was menace and thrills but also laugh out loud comedy!Thank you for adding these books to the Kindle library - any more short stories out there we have never heard of?

brilliant!
charming, interesting, sketchy little outline of what could have become a major novel, with much the same characters as her "real" novels...an independent young working woman (who is always annoyingly beautiful), a stalwart hero, best of british manhood, a scattering of elder mentors, aunts, employers, family friends, a dramatic plot, with startling, sudden horrors, a smart dialogue, and a satisfying happy end...here, in some 80 pages, we see the same formula...good show!

A great read as always
Mary Stewart never fails to entertain her readers. Her writing is beautiful in its description of landscape and nature and heroines always resourceful and more than capable of looking after themselves. I read all of her novels when in my twenties and am enjoying them just as much the second time around.

A bit dated and short
I should have realised they were short stories. I found them dated and a bit unsatisfying.

So great to find another
I’ve read all Mary Stewart romantic / thriller novels . So great to find another . She’s was an amazing writer taking you right into her stories, with such fabulous descriptions, you can see it all so clearly. Although 2 stories in one and short, well worth a read
