The Wire - Complete Season 1-5 [Blu-ray] [Region Free]

As you likely already know, this is considered to be one of the greatest television shows of all time by many... I belong to that group. The series was lightning in a bottle, encapsulating street life in the drug and murder filled streets of Baltimore, in a way not seen before. Though dated in some regards (in 2024),I plan to continue to rewatch this series, start-to-finish, a few times a year... And in other news, large multi-disc series' packaging continues to be a tremendous pain in the buttocks.

I had heard a lot about this series but never really watched any of it until I got this set. Wow. The acting, writing, directing, the whole series is top notch. Highly recommend and you'll probably get hooked to watch the entire series once you start.

Great series

I'm happy with the quality of my purchase. At first they wouldn't play in my 4k bluray player, after doing some troubleshooting I realized my old hdmi cords was the problem. I purchased some new fusion 4k 2.1 hdr 48 bandwidth higher quality hdmi cords & that solved my problem. Now I'm enjoying all the seasons of the legendary series the wire. My only gripe is all the disc it comes with & getting up to change the disc out but when the wifi fails I have all the seasons of the wire to watch.

This is the best movie I have seen portraying life in the inner city. However, the people who I have spoken to that lived in Baltimore said this movie actually portrayed life as it was there. Excellent movie, harsh language, vivid sex scenes, not for minors and probably some adults can't handle it or understand the language. In other words, some may need a translator to understand language and life in the ghetto.

All in All very well written, suspenseful and well acted. To me, not as great as everyone preaches, but over all very good. The first two seasons are some of the best seasons ever made for TV. Seasons 3-4 changed main characters a bit and was a little too "urban" for me. I began to lose interest with season 4, but season 5 rebounded a bit and drew me back in, although I haven't finished it due to my over all decreased interest in the show. Too bad there were only 5 seasons. If there was one more season like season 2 instead of season 4, it may have been the greatest series ever made. Even the Sopranos had some "down" episodes, but IMO The Sopranos is worth owning and still the king. I hate to devalue my ownership of this boxset and the sopranos boxset by giving away this dirty little secret, but I would recommend spending your money on a one year Amazon Prime membership (which I already had) and signing up for the free month of HBO digital subscription now offered and watching the Wire and the Sopranos through them for free.

Finally got the show on Blu-Ray. I am not sure if it will upscale as the show was made before HD was a thing. But the show itself, in my opinion is the best written show in the history of TV. If you haven't seen it you are missing out.
