Immortal Demon Slayer

"I AM...SUN....WU...KONG!!!!"
An absolute terrific and totally enjoyable Chinese fantasy epic by Director Kwok Chi-Kin.Movie has a big budget feel so you're definitely not going to be cheated by anything visually. If that were all it still may make this movie worth watching but what really makes this such a great action movie are it's stars.Taiwanese/Canadian action star Eddie Peng steals the show as the main character...the sometimes serious, sometimes not...but always legendary Monkey King (Sun Wu Kong). Considered a demon by the oppressive Celestial Kingdom, Pengs character struggles to free humanity from their clutches. Great chemistry between Peng, his co-stars Ni Ni (who plays a rebellious celestial princess and love interest, Ah Zi) and Shawn Yue (who plays a brooding...sometimes adversary, sometimes friendly...celestial warrior named Erlang who is on a manipulated journey towards godhood). The movie does have comedic elements that break up the otherwise seriousness of the main plot line. Actor Shan Qiao does a great job in the role of Juanlian, an minor inventor celestial who delivers some of the funniest scenes and lines in the movie. Veteran actress Feihong Yue (Ying Ying from the Joy Luck Club) plays the villain Hua Ji, a power hungry celestial looking to control destiny by acquiring the Heart of the Stone (which Wu Kong carries). Oho Ou and Zheng Shuan round out the star studded cast. The movie ends with one of the most epic special effects scenes I've seen in some time as a reborn Monkey King and the newly evolved "god" Erlan take on Hua Ji in her true evil (and humongous...you'll see) form. The movie is in Mandarin (Chinese) with English sub-titles and won a host of awards at the Macau International Film Festival. I've watched this 3 times already and it doesn't get tiring.

A very impressive Sun Wukong film!
By far the most impressive in quality Monkey King film available to view currently.Typically In my experience in watching Monkey King films. The films constantly attempt to humor, which is a distraction for me,because the comedy is aimed for a younger audience. This movie has a much more serious tone but still contains well placed humor. The CGI was surprisingly impressive. In my past experiences viewing WuKong films. The CGI was very low in quality, unconvincing and a annoying distraction. This version however was some of the best CGI I’ve ever seen from a China film studio. Little details like appropriate color of lighting seemed to be done right. I was so impressed. This film has a focused story great for a stand alone film,it even includes some social commentary, which I appreciated and wasn’t expecting. The cast seemed on point as well. From my perspective the acting served the movie well. The action is beautiful, well done, creative and really captures the imagination and scope of the Monkey King mythology. The battles are spectacular and precisely choreographed. The excellent cinematography enhances the fights and shows off the wonderful costumes and stunning scenery. Also it seemed to be a good balance of practical effects and special effects. In conclusion. This is the most impressive Wukong film out there. This specific Wukong film helped me appreciate the Mythos. I’m really hoping the entire team that worked on this film will get the opportunity to do another. Hands down one of China’s best fantasy, action adventure stand alone films.

Yep. If you like the Monkey King stories, you should watch this.
One of the other reviews called this something like a prequel to The Journey West Stories... that's a great description and they put together a great story line and cast for it. Best of all, it actually captures the flavor of the classic. ( If you haven't, you need to read The Journey West. It's the Illiad and Odyssey for China... but way way way funnier. This film really captures the character of the Monkey King... the Sun Wu Kong who will eventually cause Heaven even more trouble and get assigned to help a little Monk travel to India to return with the authentic stories of the Buddha. )

Wu Kong aka "Immortal Demon Slayer"
"I want the sky no longer to blind my eyes""I want the earth no longer to bury my heart""I want all the living beings to understand my mind""I want all the gods to disappear" -"Sun Wu-kong returns to Mount Huaguo with the desire to see the purple sunsets there. He called upon all living creatures that refuse to accept their fate,to engage in a hundred years war with the Heavenly Kingdom." - (end footage from Wu kong Movie)I was hunting Eddie Peng's latest release movies "Wu Kong". Had no idea that this great box office hit was renamed as the "Immortal Demon Slayer" in the US. Still, no matter. Eddie Peng's Wu Kong is a great keeper and a must watch. The pure language poetry translated in the subtitles is beautiful. Especially, love the plot that it was pre-Journey to the West. IMHO, the chinese gods/inmortals are no different from the greek gods - power-hungry, vain, and flawed. 'Wu Kong's stubborn character can be identified with so many people who refused to say die and leave everything to fate. To many of you who have yet to discover this version of the mighty "Monkey King" - after watching this movie, you'll understand why the Monkey King is so determined to be his OWN person and fought his OWN path regardless of whomever gods say different. This version is a must watch for ALL Monkey King's diehards/fans. 5 stars to all the actors and great storytelling by the writers. Hope, the producers will make sequels of Wu-kong with Eddie Peng's on board.

I was not expecting such a good movie
This was shockingly good. I was expecting a slow paced lore filled slog of a movie but this was anything but that. The special effects are superb and the acting was great. And those last 30 minutes or so....MCU needs to take some pointers from this is all I am sayin.
