The good stuff
You used to be able to get high quality, multi turn, Boiler Drain Valves at the major home stores ( my house also has them for the outside hose taps and washing machine shutoffs. But now most are 1/4 turn ball type ( fine for washing machines and boilers, less so for outside hose taps ) so I went with these NIBCO units, which are well made and more heavy duty, plus the hose connection angles away from the house / boiler vs going straight down. Perfect for my needs. Update, I compared the two that I bought and noticed the one on the left in the photo had a much rougher finish and a smaller diameter passage. This would be a flow restriction if used to feed a garden hose connected to a power washer, so I exchanged mine for another which had a smoother finish and larger diameter passage like the one on the left. This restriction wouldn't be a big deal for a washing machine or draining a boiler ( just take more time to fill or drain. )
