Full synthetic = best protection
Full synthetic. It means that all the components are exactly controlled and designed to achieve the goal - the best lubrication of the engine. There is no question in my mind that a full synthetic has superior performance vs. mixed not to mentioned mineral oils. Regardless how well a mineral oil is refined S (Sulfur) can't be removed entirely. That means a degree of corrosion in the end (oxidized sulfur results is sulfur dioxide, sulfur dioxide plus water results in sulfuric acid); I would rather not have that in my engines. Comparing Mobil 1 vs. other full synthetic engine oils I read as much as I could. Hard to find a non-biased review and devoid of marketing hype. A chemical engineer at USC tested several brands of full synthetic oils in his motorcycle and his conclusion was that Mobil 1 was the best. After using it for about 350,000 miles in 2 cars and one motorcycle I concur. My 15 year old engine runs as good as new and the oil is still yellow when I need to change it. Meaning that the engine is pretty clean with no deposits (you should not change the oil based on color, just based on miles and how hard the car was driven). Yes it is more expensive than a mineral oil - but a new engine or a new car is even more expensive. The few dollars that I pay extra for the synthetic provide me with peace of mind having an engine that runs at its best. So I recommend having a full synthetic oil in the engine. My cars are 15 and 14 years old and are not leaking a drop of oil. Both had full synthetic after the first 5000 miles. When to change oil? The best way would be with an oil analysis kit - which costs about same as a new oil change for a car (different for 18 wheelers where you replace 10 or 18 quarts of oil). So without an oil analysis kit I tend to replace it around 5000 miles. Manufacturer claims it is good for 7,500 miles (or even 15,000 for "extended") but I would rather not push the limits. For the stop and go traffic in my city 5000 miles oil change interval had served me well. I guess any full synthetic oil performs well enough and in the end maybe it is a question of personal preference. I always used Mobil 1 and I was never disappointed so I stick with it.

The best oil I have used!
This oil is amazing. I went on a trip accross the country and put 5,000 miles on my car. after the trip my oil looked like it had miles on it but it was still usable for another few thousand miles. so far there is almost 6,000 miles and still running good. Don't know if i will let it go 15,000 miles though. Will change it after about 10,000. Let the suckers who change there oil every 3,000 miles waste there money on what they think is good oil when its just a stock oil and filter. Also, I put in a K&N oil filter and a K&N air filter to my 2008 Nissan altima and it has given me a few miles extra to the gallon. Also put in half a quart of Lucas Oil Stabilizer. Would recommend those as well. Also, I thought i was getting a good deal her on amazon for a six pack of this oil because it was cheapper than spending almost $12 dollars a Bottle at Autozone. But then I looked a WalMart who was only selling a five quart jug for $28 dollars. Would recommend looking at a place like WalMart before buying here as it could save you over $20 dollars for the same oil. Other than that, Great oil.

Excellent Value and Protection
My father was a Mobil dealer for over 40 years, and I began using Mobil 1 oil when it first came out. He was also an excellent mechanic, and he taught me the trick to getting the most out of your synthetic oil... Continue to change your OIL FILTER at 6,000 mile intervals. Keep a quart handy to top off after the filter change. No exaggeration: my 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT went 20,000 miles between Mobil 1 changes. I drove that car vigorously. In that time, only 2 filter changes and 1 quart added (the Eclipse uses a small filter). My 06 Ram requires an oil change every 3500 miles like clockwork. Delay, and I start hearing the lifters tick. Next change will be Mobil 1, which I have hesitated on because 7 quarts of the stuff is pricey, and my father is no longer around to discount me. If you live in northern US or Canada, consider the 0W-40 formula. Another piece of advice. Do not store this oil for long periods of time in a location that is subject to sub-freezing temperatures. It will eventually separate, and you will find a white sludge at the bottom of your quart. Believe the hype. Mobil 1 exceeds its advertising if properly used.
