Dog Man: Big Jim Begins: A Graphic Novel (Dog Man #13): From the Creator of Captain Underpants

My 2nd grade granddaughter loved the Dog Man books. She was excited to receive this Big Jim book and immediately started reading it. She loves all the “extra”, fun things sprinkled throughout the book. Wonderful quality. Good price. Beautiful hard cover book. The graphics are great. The words are large enough for easy reading. The story is fun. This book really encourages reading. Perfect gift for a second grader.

My kids love these books, great buy

Great addition to the Dog Man series. My niece loved reading it. While it may be for kids, there are plenty of fun inside jokes for the grown-ups.

He already read it cover to cover. He is 11 and these are books he will read over and over.

Dog Man: Big Jim Begins is just as funny and heartwarming as the rest of the series. The illustrations are lively, the humor is spot-on, and the story keeps you turning pages. Perfect for young readers or anyone who loves silly, clever adventures.

Good my kid loved it

Another year, another Dog Man book, and my kid was absolutely bouncing off the walls. Dav Pilkey is a master at this, and Big Jim Begins is no exception. The humor is spot on, the art is a total blast, and my kid tore through it in about an hour, which is always a win. The backstory for Big Jim is a really nice touch, and it adds some surprising heart to a character we've seen before. The positive messages about friendship and believing in yourself are also woven in really well, without feeling too preachy. My one small criticism is that, while the story is good, it feels like it's setting up the next book more than it is a standalone adventure. It leaves things on a bit of a cliffhanger, which is great for building anticipation but a little frustrating when you want a complete story in one sitting. It's a minor thing, but it's why it gets four stars instead of five. It's still a must-buy for any Dog Man fan, but just be prepared for the inevitable question: "When does the next one come out?!"

We initially planned to purchase locally but upon reviewing discovered that the price on Amazon was cheaper than any other location. The purchase was smooth, the product arrived timely and my son was very excited for this birthday gift.
