Great book for website design
This is a good text to learn this technology. It is also good for updating your skills with the introduction of HTML 5. My husband is using this as a textbook for his website design class so he can learn what I do as a web designer. While I don't agree with some of the items mentioned, I'm willing to "agree to disagree" on those points. This text will last you a long time for learning what it contains. Learn one skill (HTML), then let it sink in your life. Add CSS, then JavaScript, PHP, etc. as you feel comfortable with the preceding skills. Trying to learn all of this all at once can be overwhelming.

Very Detailed (6th Edition)
The is the first official book I have purchased and read on web publishing. I have purchased the 6th edition of this book. It was published in September 2010.Having been exposed to the field for many years now, the order of the content seemed a bit odd at first. However, after finishing the entire book, the order of the content was very well planned. The knowledge that I have learned over the years has finally been pieced together in a professional manner. The exercises at the end of the chapter allow you to apply what you have been taught. Overall, authors are very detailed with there explanations. There are a few typos here and there, but they are not nearly erroneous enough to hinder your learning. After reading the book and organizing my knowledge, I can finally move on to PHP and Javascript. Also, be sure to register your purchase and download the source code from informit.comHappy Reading!

There are much better books out there
This book is not as well written as some, taking a long time to introduce what the internet is and in general assuming you know absolutely nothing, rather than getting to current practices. Although it is updated recently, it feels outdated.I would recommend the "HTML, XHTML, and CSS: Visual QuickStart Guide" by Elizabeth Castro as a clear, colorful alternative that helps you spend less time reading and easily reference key topics. "Stylin' With CSS" by Charles-Wyke Smith is also good.I had to buy these books for classes and will definitely sell this book and keep the others once the classes are over.Suggested: Stylin' with CSS: A Designer's Guide (2nd Edition) HTML, XHTML, and CSS: Visual QuickStart Guide, MobiPocket

Used it for a IT course
This is a great book. It helped me with my web page development course which didn't have a book just down loads from the instructor. Using the book helped me get an A in the course, and not have to take the final!!!!

Easy to understand web development
I had to purchase this book as my textbook for a Web Development class at Milwaukee Area Technical College. I am taking the class online with very little interaction with my instructor or fellow students. Using this book, I am able to understand how to complete each weekly assignment. I have worked through chapter 5 so far, and I will update this review as I progress through the book. - Valerie Schuler

Must have for CSS & HTML classes!
I checked this out from the library for a class. This was such a great deal, I purchased for future classes and to have on hand.

bought this as text book would not buy again
this book is lacking in structure and flow. I think it could've been written in a shorter format and with a little color. I've seen magazines on web design with more intuitive discussion of CSS.
