This ice shaver results in a texture I'd compare to Sonic, finer than that of most Frisch's (Bob's, Big Boy, etc.). It makes great snow cones, but again, if you add your favorite flavor, once it starts to melt a bit you have a very similar drink to Sonic's slushes. I love the auto-off feature when the handle is pulled upward. After use, I place a towel where the bowl was to catch and absorb the water that flows down from the inner mechanics for a while. The shaver is quite heavy and appears to be well made, so it would make a great and durable gift for anyone who likes snow cones and/or Sonic. Add a few bottles of snow cone flavorings and it makes an even more outstanding gift.

What a great product! I purchased one of those small manual ice shavers and it didn’t work well. My arm was dead tired after having to shave 3 small bowls of ice for my kids. I decided to go for an electric one and this was so easy to use! It works fast and very well. My kids have been using this everyday! It takes up quite a bit of counter space but it’s worth it!

Overall for the price this was an excellent value when buying small plastic manual devices can cost about the same. I took a chance and I'm happy with the purchase overall. It can shave ice very fine for snow-like texture or more coarsely depending on the type of ice you use and how hard you push on the compaction lever. For the best results use ~4" diameter ice pucks so you get a nice even shave. Honestly, just throwing in a handful of ice cubes has resulted in great shaved ice too. It's easy enough that in the evening I or the kids may just crave some shaved ice without syrups and I'll pull it out for 30 sec to shave a handful of cubes and be done with it. While the performance is overall great you can tell that this is manufactured on an assembly line that's focused on pushing out quantity and not high finish consumer products. The castings have imperfections and the polished metal parts had a lot of blemishes and lines where the manufacturing wasn't great. Since I'm a little neurotic I took that off and sanded most of the imperfections out by hand and polished it up to a nice shine, but it's still not perfect. The device was also a bit tough to cean since you can't get behind the blade wheel. Considering the quality of manufacturing I think it's worth extra effort to clean it the first time you use it.I noticed some comments where people had ice thrown around and also felt the system was unsafe. My perspective on safety is that this is a device with a spinning blade so you should take great caution when operating. The shutoff switch turns the system off when the lever is pulled up but the blade will continue spinning for a moment so just use good judgement and don't reach your hand in. When shaving I also hold the bowl up closer to the dispenser and rotate it along. That helps contain the shavings and direct them to the right place. Using a taller bowl helps too. When I finish I wipe the inside out with a towel and place the towel under the ice exit to catch whatever melts and drips out. I don't think there is a way to quickly dry it out if you planned on using it and then putting it away immediately. It just has to air dry.Bottom line, I think mechanically this gets the job done at a very fair price. You get what you pay for though and this is mass produced (you can find tons of sellers of the identical unit) and doesn't meet high aesthetic standards. With that in mind I would buy it again. We purchased this for our camper. The kids and adults absolutely LOVE this machine. Works wonderfully.

I bought this as a gift for my husband, and he loves it. I like that you use regular ice cubes, and not a special disk shaped ice. It's loud when running, but does a great job grinding the ice. If you don't clean out the ice that did not cut, it will eventually melt and make a watery mess on the counter.

I run a small concession stand at a soccer club and got a wild hair to make snow cones a few years back via a ninja blender. It worked, albeit slowly, and after I saw the kids liked them I bought this to speed things up and have better shaved ice.That was 2.5 years ago… 40 gallons of syrup and god knows how many hundreds of pounds of ice and a few thousand snow cones later. It hasn’t missed a beat.Highly recommended.
