Sugar free biscuits (hard to find)
Tbh, I am left "wanting" with these biscuits which lured me with so much promise. To start with, whenever I think of biscuits I think of "snap" (I probably watch too much "GB Bake-off"!) But it's true, Prue and Paul don't have the monopoly over demanding a "snap" from their biscuits and these are sadly lacking in this department which have, instead, a soft crumble, or "frumble" as there's no hard consonant sound as this biscuit breaks for a dunk; indeed I think a dunk would be the death of these biscuits - I daren't try!My next quibble is their colour. Now, a biscuit gets its name from the French "cuire" meaning to bake with the addition of "bi" meaning two, so traditionally, biscuits mean "twice-baked" which would suggest a depth of colour (for the majority) including Oat Crunch and Chocolate Chip. Shortbread, is another matter and, unless over-baked, is light coloured (but I would argue it's not actually a biscuit even if it has "snap", while a traditionally soft Viennese shortbread is most definitely not a biscuit...)This brings me onto the matter of taste. Now I enjoy a Viennese Whirl / Shortbread-not-a-biscuit as much as the next person; it has a very distinct but delicate flavour, to showcase its pale, delicate appearance. The snag is, because all biscuits in their respective boxes are of identical colour and similar texture to those of the Viennese (definitely not biscuit) Shorties, they all taste pretty much the same as well.In short, apart from the actual Viennese (definitely not biscuit) Shorties, the other two offerings in this pack of three, are just not my cup of tea - but they might just be yours! 😀
