Excellent Guide to Lowering Blood Pressure
I gave this book a 4 because it's a really good book, but I feel it doesn't quite deserve the 5 stars because it isn't 100% accurate.I like how the author suggests natural supplements. My doctor was quick to prescribe me a diuretic even though my hypertension is mild. I'm currently taking Garlic, Hawthorn and Celery Seed extract to lower my blood pressure. What I disliked is how the book put down saturated fat like it's the devil. The lipid hypothesis is just a hypothesis and has never been proven true. Also, the REAL Mediterranean diet ([...]) is actually fairly high in saturated fat. I think polyunsaturated fats are more of a problem, because when cooked they oxidize and produce free radicals, which cause inflammation, while saturated fats like coconut oil are very stable and don't oxidize when cooked.I would recommend this book to anyone suffering from hypertension.

A detailed, concise and comprehensive guide to Hypertension
As with all other works by John McArthur, this is a detailed, concise and comprehensive guide to the subject matter, in this case hypertension, aka high blood pressure. As explained in the book, hypertension problems are commonly associated with age, obesity, fat distribution and diet in Western society - but there is hope! Personally I don't suffer from this condition, but I've certainly heard a lot about it and I don't think it does any harm to preempt these types of conditions and arm yourself with as much information as possible. Some of the chapters included here are: about high blood pressure, how it's measured, effect, causes, signs and symptoms, how to lower blood pressure with a: better lifestyle, vitamins and minerals and herbal medicine, more options to lower blood pressure, final recommendations and recommended reading, to name a few. This is an invaluable and informative guide if you think you may be suffering from hypertension, or are at risk of doing so. It details what you can do - changes you can make in your lifestyle to greatly reduce your chances of developing it, for example dietary changes, nutritional supplements, exercise and stress control. The highly detailed chapters containing dietary advice and advice on vitamins and minerals are indespensible. If you make the lifestyle changes and follow the dietary advice etc, then chances are you will prevent the development of hypertension, or at least greatly reduce your chances of doing so. If you already have it, you can adopt the measures detailed in this guide to lower your blood pressure and greatly reduce the effects of it. I hope this author will continue producing these fantastic medical guides, and I'm always on the lookout now for the next one! Highly recommended.

Excellent Information, Well Written and Comprehensive
I have just finished reading the book and I like it. It is very easy to read n medical jargon, easy to follow. For me it was a real page-turner and if you are among those who are searching for ways to deal with hypertension, you surely wouldn't be able to put it down. I kept on going and going, devouring every important reminder and the tips that the author shared in the book.He carefully and objectively explained why a change in diet and lifestyle could help in lowering blood pressure. After all, if you really look at it, foods and lifestyle are among the greatest factors that contribute to an individual's blood pressure, which is why controlling them can do the trick. As a matter of interest - in one of the case studies quoted in this book a man got his blood pressure from high to normal within 7 days! And, it is also for the same reason why more and more people are going for natural means. This book is a reinforcement of this trend at present. Most medications prescribed by doctors do have serious side effects, some medications treat one disease but trigger a whole heap of other problems in the body. I have heard of and seen a lot of people suffering from this. which is why I completely agree with the author that dietary and lifestyle changes could help so much in treating hypertension. And that is, without any side effects. This book is for the open-minded, and for those who are really serious about treating hypertension and those who want to treat hypertension without the side effects. This book will help you a lot.

This book helped me solve my BP problems!
About a year ago, I was going through an extremely stressful time in life, and my blood pressure began rising to alarming levels - one time it was 170/110!! My doctor wanted me to go on meds, but I read the side effects and just couldn't make myself do it. Bay following the directions in this book and some other research I found online, I successfully lowered my blood pressure without meds. It took about a month of magnesium supplementation, eating about four whole sticks of celery daily, and increasing my vegetable intake (I already ate a lot of fruit). That got me down to 130/90. Then I went to the chiropractor and got an Atlas adjustment - two of them, actually. The first one seemed to do nothing. After the second one, I had a terrible headache for two days. On the third day, the headache was gone and my BP was 117 / 75. Yay! Thanks to the author of this book, not just for sharing what worked for him, but also encouraging all of us to seek out solutions other than medications which simply mask the problem.

Very helpful book! Very impressed with this book!
Upon reading this book, I must say that I was suprised in that it had more information than I thought it would about high blood pressure. In this book, the author explains the causes and treatments for high blood pressure. What I like is that this book explains how to use natural treatments to lower blood pressure. And I was glad that the author brought up stress as a cause. Also the importance of keeping accutate records and testing at home. For me, my blood pressure goes up and down. When I am anxious, it goes uo somewhat, when I am calm, it is normal. However, due to the helpfulness of this book, I am now taking magnesium and potassium and eating more veggies, less meat etc.Great book.

Must read if you have high BP
Simple and straightforward advice on lifestyle and nutrition. The GP wanted my husband to take medication for high blood pressure. He was reluctant and followed the recommendations in the book. Within 4 weeks his BP has dropped to high normal. So no meds required. Result!!

good summary of advice
Brings together several surveys and their results.A good background on causes and the different medical treatments. Some repetition and typos otherwise would have been 5 stars.
