I have bought many different types of speakers over the past years and to me this one is by far the best. The sound quality on these speakers is by far the best of any Bluetooth speaker I have purchased. Whether you are listening to Grateful Dead or Lil Wayne, I am sure that you will be impressed. The quality of the bass is excellent; you really feel the room shaking and when you put it on beast mode it’s like being at a live event. The sound is super clear, as if it is a $2000 stereo system. It is light weight and very durable. The carrying strap is very useful and I am able to bring it wherever I go. And there is no reason to worry because it is waterproof so I am able to bring it to the beach. Don’t hesitate, if you are looking for a speaker for the summer this is the one. Can’t recommend enough.

First the positive: the speaker is sturdy, sounds great, has good bass, good battery life, waterproof, and the light settings are spectacular!However this particular model has one fatal flaw....IT DOESN'T WORK! The speaker sounds amazing for the first 15 minutes after being unboxed and plugged in, and after that they just start to randomly freeze and force you to power off and back on or just simply power off on it's own. I've gone through 6 units hoping to get one that works. I've bought them in pairs, being that 2 of them can be linked together but after 3 tries I've been forced to surrender. The first 4 speakers were purchased 2 at a time from Sam's club and had the same issue so I decided to buy directly through the Altec Lansing website link which directed me to Amazon where I bought the 3rd and final pair and still had the same issue.I contacted the manufacturer hoping that it was simply a simple firmware update, but was told that there is no update available and was offered a replacement but I would have to ship the spears to them at my own cost so I decided to return them to Amazon instead and just get a refund.

Love the way it sounds, but for the money it acts weird. Sometimes when you turn it on, the lights come on, but it does not "boot up", connect and start playing and requires a restart. A unit that costs this much should JUST WORK like the $40 ones I have had for years that never fail.

I bought this speaker because I thought it would be louder than my Mix 2.0 which is rated at only 50 watts. Not only is the "200 watt" XP400 equal in volume, but it also has sub par sound quality compared to the Mix 2.0. While the Mix 2.0 has a rich full sound with crisp clear highs, detailed midrange, and punchy bass, the XP400 has none of that. Instead the XP400 is painfully flat and utterly lacking any weight or depth in the lows, and is piercingly sharp in the highs, only the mid range comes through well. Add in the annoying static from improperly shielded wires and you have the perfect recipe for disappointment.Partly this is my fault for not doing enough research, the XP400 is clearly a predecessor to the Mix 2.0, and seems to be on the verge of being discontinued if it hasn't been already. Do yourself a favor and go for the Mix 2.0 if you want a great sounding speaker that's easy to carry around with a long battery life.

I buy a lot of products online and usually do quite a bit of research in advance - buying a pair of Altec Lansing Xpedition 4’s was no exception. I was looking for backyard filling sound ( accurate, but with a kick), ability to pair with separate left/right channels for stereo, portability, ruggedness, and long battery life. These blow me away! Phenomenal sound reproduction, plenty of volume for a large backyard party, very rugged, and the batteries have literally run for more than 8 hours in the sun at high volume! These speakers have exceeded my expectations in every way! BTW, the LED lights are fun ( frankly I rarely use them...) but don’t be distracted - these are serious speakers. Enjoy!

I bought this speaker about one and a half years ago. For the first year, I rarely used it, maybe once per month. Then three months ago, I started using it twice a week. I quickly realized that it has a problem. When I was charging it, the indicator light did not turn on. In the middle of playing, the music would stop for half of a second. Then finally this week, it is completely dead, even after it was plugged in for a whole day. I think that the battery is no good.

By far the best blue tooth speaker I’ve bought. Four times the volume of speakers that cost way more. Light weight and easy to carry and use. Battery life is awesome. I’ve bought three of these because they are so good family had to have them. The next size up is not half as light and less sound quality

I put one star as I wanted to ensure my review was available but it should be zero stars as the speaker wouldn't even make it thru a first use. The statement advertised as made for all environments is completely false. Even before attempting to see its floating capability, the speaker didn't play after unloading from the car and setting up our beach spot. Truly the waterproof claim not far from true. Don’t understand the issue as we do have another friend with same brand speaker (although another model) which did back up its advertised capabilities. Very upset as this was a birthday present for my husband.
