Very good product other reviews just got bad SSD
I have had this SSD for nearly a year now and I am seeing loads of reviews of the SSD failing them after a couple of months. Either they broke it or tired to overwork it somehow. I am a uni student and needed this as I would have to transfer files from the uni computer to my laptop. I did find the USB C lead to be a bit short but it makes sense as if you buy velcro straps and place on the laptop lid and put velcro on the SSD then it becomes very convenient as you can have it virtually anywhere without worrying about it moving around, very secure. I used this on both mac and PC with no problems. I also have a lot of games on the SSD and the download speed and upload is stupidly fast, anyone who says its slow either works for NASA or is picky. No joke I transferred a 14GB file in 30 seconds. I was worried that if I used it for a long time it would heat up and yes it does it gets hot but it still works at optimum no problems. But you should not have it on all the time like that, not its main purpose if you are considering getting an actual large storage hard drive that is designed for long period of time use like the WD Ultra with USB c connection. This SSD is mainly for travel and easy convenience. I have not had a failure to this data and just remember this is a WD product so expect a quality product for the price. I have also dropped it a few times and after it worked fine no damage.

Brilliant SSD from Western Digital
You wouldn’t believe just how small this is. 512gb and it’s smaller than an iPhone SE (5s). Amazing reliability as always from western digital. Build quality did worry me a bit but it’s not too bad, wish the metal bit didn’t dirty up the second you touch it. Other than that, really portable. I use it as my MacBook pro’s Main working SSD (can’t upgrade inner SSD plus it’s good to work off externals and then create back ups especially if your computer is touch and go or your work is important).

A great buy. SSD small, light, convenient and fast.
A great buy, from all points of view.I bought it to pair it with my XBOX ONE X, with the aim of being able to shorten the loading times of the games.Inside the package you will find the small SSD, the cable and a USC type C -> USB 3.0 adapterOnce connected it was immediately recognized by both MacMini and XBOX.Loading is wonderfully fast (up to 540 MB / s).It is not the first SSD I use, another SSD is installed in my MacMini, also Western Digital, from the "Blue" series. As I said in that review, the MacMini is reborn. However I can anticipate you that the loading times of the games have HALT.So I recommend it to all those who work with very large files or software, which require quite long loading times.Excellent transportability, you will not feel the weight of this SSD inside your bag at all and will also take up very little space on your desk. The manufacturer's 3-year warranty is the icing on the cake. Symbol of the seriousness and professionalism that has always distinguished the Western Digital brand.Have a good day and good shopping.

Very good product.
This is probably as good as anything else on the market, if a little expensive. My only issue is with the cable, it's far too short to be practical, I've had a few of these units and at least half of the cables didn't work, so if you only buy one you may not be able to use it. Beware!.

Lovely little gadget
Lots of space to cart round. Quite quick write speeds and very fast reads. I use it with my phone and my computer.

Great speed machine, thankfully USB-C 3.1 (Thunderbolt 3 compatible) to USB 3.0 adapter included in the box
I bought this for my MacBook Air, I thought that all Thunderbolt ports were the same but unfortunately they are not. The 2017 Air has Thunderbolt 2 which is compatible with Thunderbolt 1 but NOT with the new Thunderbolt 3 which is USB-C compatible. To get the Thunderbolt 2 speed I bought a TB3 to TB2 adapter, unfortunately it was the wrong one. It had a MALE TB3 and what I needed was a TB2 male end to put into the TB2 port so I have to send it back to Apple. Before I bought an adapter to get Thunderbolt 2 speed I had got on to Apple Support Chat and explained what I wanted unfortunately for me they gave me a link to the WRONG ADAPTER GGGRRRRRRRFortunately Western Digital included a USB 3.0 adapter so I was able to connect to the USB 3 port, thankfully the Air has 2 USB 3 ports. On newer MacBook Pro they only have Thunderbolt 3 ports, no SDXC slot, no Mini-display port, no USB port, no HDMI. The 12" base MacBook has only 1 Thunderbolt 3 port, hows about that for 'innovation' from apple who seem to want us to fork out for a desk full of adapters to connect to external monitors, old printers, projectors, TV's ….. I could go on and on, I have nearly 20 adapters to connect my iPad 2 30-pin, iPhone 7 iMac, MacBook Air to old VGA projectors and HDMI. I have a habit of holding on to Apple tech, it's so expensive I don't have to have 'the latest thing'

Great product
I’ve bought two of these fairly recently and they can’t be bettered. The only comment I would add is that the connecting cable is very short and stiff, and the plug at either end is turned slightly In relation to each other - this means that when plugged in the SSD box doesn’t sit flat on the desk, but at an elevated angle. Not smart!
