Blood Simple [Blu-ray]

It’s rated 18 for a reason.
Brilliant. It’s a love triangle that from the opening credits just wasn’t going to work out for anyone.

The Coen Brothers best film!
A bar owner (Dan Hedaya) in Texas suspects that his wife Abby (Francis McDormand) is having an affair,so he hires an unscrupulous private investigator called Visser (M.Emmet Walsh) to investigate. The husbands suspicions are confirmed when Visser returns with the evidence that his wife is having an affair with Ray (John Getz),one of his bartenders. After a confrontation with his wife in which he gets his finger broken he returns to Visser stating that he wants both of them to be killed!Without wishing to give everything away, just to say that this film will have you hooked right up until the nail biting conclusion.Blood Simple is a superbly shot modern day noir and considering it was the Coen brothers debut film I feel that it deserves special commendation. It's a serpentine story that never goes in the direction that you expect it to which is guaranteed to have you gripped throughout. The whole cast are excellent especially M.Emmet Walsh in what has to be his best ever performance.I own the region 1 DVD which is excellent it's 1.85:1 widescreen with anamorphic availability, digitally remastered with 5.1 sound.Remember as the tag line says "In Blood Simple, when someone's gone...it's never for good",totally unmissable! Thanks for reading and I hope that you enjoy the film.

Absolutely outstanding film noir!
I originally watched this film in 1984 during it's cinema release and as a teenager I thought it was storytelling at it's best. I had not watched it again since as I feared it would be one of those films that I had a rose tinted memory of being really good but a generation later would turn out to be a disappointment and not have aged well. How wrong I was and why did I wait so long to watch it again?? It was just as good as I remembered with outstanding performances tension and atmosphere. It's a terrific gripping film and an early display of the brilliant film making talent of the cohen brothers.

A great debut from the brilliant Coen's
I'm a big fan of the Coen Brothers and love most of their work. I've been meaning to get this for a long time. It's definitely worth watching the Coen Brothers first film.

a glimpse of the future
I saw this film first time round in 1984 and have only just seen it a second time. There are many echoes of Fargo and No Country For Old Men and gripping tension throughout as the plot tightens more and more around an adulterous couple who, by a combination of miscommunication and misjudgement, get embroiled in covering up a murder they did not commit. Two scenes are remarkable for the tension they create as the main characters struggle to subdue those threatening them.Although some of the scenes and some of the acting are a bit creaky at times, I would still recommend you to watch this start of two great careers in films.

Premier film des frères Cohen
Attention, le film est seulement en anglais, avec possibilité d'afficher des sous-titres également en anglais, ce qui m'a personnellement bien aidé.

Classic Noir done simply
If you're a Coen Bros fan, you will see hints of later films and themes in this very sparse and tense thriller.
