Sings The Beatles From Abbey Road

Beatles fans, fear not, just enjoy
Here, Lucinda respects the originals and largely hews to the Beatles' versions (except for With a Little Help from My Friends, where she favors the Joe Cocker take). Still, with her inimitable voice and style, and some subtle tweaks of tempo and feel, she puts her own personal stamp on these songs and freshens them up in the process. In her covers collections I often find her song choices interesting (ie Yer Blues?), but she includes songs here from all along the Beatles' timeline. And as always, she has surrounded herself with a stellar band, who elevate these tracks at every turn.

Lucinda at her best
Hugh Lu fan here so forgive me. I was kinda worried about her doing a cover of the Beatles. But she KNOCKED this one out the park, The beatles are a boy band, She Loves You Yeah Yeah Yeah. so hearing this songs sung by Lu replacing the she's with he's Is kinda Kool, it gives the songs a whole other perspective. Even though the songs are the same coming from a woman's point of view is nothing short of AMAZING. Her band hits this one is as always PERFECT, excellent recording for Abby Road. Song choice is great. My only complaint is it should have been a double LP. We love ya Lucinda and will always be a fan.

Beatle Boots on a Gravel Road
What strikes me first is that Lucinda doesn't try to be a Beatle, she just does Lucinda. You listen to the band and they're not trying to be Beatles either. Although, throughout the recording, you hear the drummer or guitars and you swear you've heard that sound before. The touch of what sounds like a B3 is so appropriate, you wonder why George Martin never thought of it. She stays truer to Cocker rather than Ringo on "...Help from my Friends". This record made me smile and occasionally bang my head; what else can you ask for?

Great surprise!
I'm a big Lucinda fan, but when I heard she was covering The Beatles, I was prepared to be disappointed. What a great surprise! Lucinda does The Beatles justice and her voice is perfectly suited for these tunes, and still manages to put her own spin on these songs. As an added bonus we have Doug Pettibone playing some marvelous guitar and adding his spot on backup vocals.

In this case stick with the originals.
Love Lucinda but the Beatles versions are so programmed into our brains that one is comparing them to Lucinda's versions in your head and not to her benefit. An album by Lucinda of covers of a variety of British invasion bands would be better. Her releases of covers by Tom Petty etc. during the pandemic are much better.

Familiar but new
We all know the songs but Lucinda's simpler arrangements with her great band give them a new life. Wonderful listening experience.
