Excellent value
If you want a portable camera which takes better pictures than your phone on a budget, go for it.I think Nikon made the right compromises for the price. No touchscreen, no wifi (unless you have a wifi SD card), but good pictures, battery life, quality design. What's in the package?Camera, charger, cable, battery, manual, optional software on CD and a strap. No SD card is included. The accessories are decent, which was somewhat surprising for the price. The USB cable is long and has built in protection; the charger & strap are proper, too. I didn't have any problems with the battery of the S3300 (my previous camera) over the years, so I expect the same from this. The batteries are interchangeable with previous models. (Dropped the S3300 on ancient stones. The stones won the battle, so we were forced to look for another one. However, it did not die instantly. Even after the drop despite the on/off switch & AF light not working, there was an alternative way of turning it on, so still managed to capture the entire holiday. (The alternative is long pressing the play button then the scene or the shutter. If it'd had a touch screen we would've been stuck with no camera for the holiday - sometimes physical buttons are a good idea.) In fact we could still use it for another year before it retired. It still works (sort of), but sometimes produces the odd low quality image.)What's it like? It's smaller than the average phone these days. It feels good to hold and use. It has metal casing, fits in virtually any pocket. Some people will like the colour options. I just went for the boring black. The case design has improved from previous models. There are improved solutions around the battery compartment and the SD card slot (the old was adequate, too, but the new mechanisms look a bit better). The position of the nut for the tripod is better in the centre. The position of the AF light is better on the inside of the optics. And the position of the usb socket is better on the top, too. I also like the fact that they made the strap holder smaller. They improved the optics and vibration reduction. The servo for the zoom feels quicker, too. The average of 10 startup times measured with a stopwatch was 1.3 +/- 0.2 s. There are better ways of measuring this, I just couldn't find an official figure. There's some processing delay as you'd expect, but it captures stuff OK. It has the usual jpeg rendering issue, it's a bit blurry first then it becomes sharp. Most people probably wouldn't care about this too much. The image quality is fine. It's good for printing, too. I went up to A4 so far, the pictures look good on the wall. It has better optics and flash than a smartphone, you'll have better pictures. The LCD is matt, no glare in the Sun. It has buttons - will work with gloves on.Your computer charges the camera while you're copying the pictures. I hardly have to use the dedicated charger.20 Gb free cloud photo storagenikonimagespace.com will host 20Gb of your pictures once you register and verify your camera with a little software. Verification only works on Windows and Mac, but then the software itself is cross platform. Drag 'n' drop doesn't work on Linux, but the default uploader does the job. They have an iPhone and Android app, too.View NX 2 softwareThere's an offline video & image editing software and a separate panorama photo maker in the package, too. (This is Windows and Mac only.)SpecsYou'll find auto / semi auto / manual ISO settings. There are 2 AF modes - single which is good for stills and continuous which is better for moving objects. There are 5 AF area settings to go with either of the mode settings - face priority, manual, center, subject tracking and target finding. You have your 5 flash modes and one macro, exposure compensation and default colour scheme. In addition you can choose from different scenes if you like those. Can set manual / auto white balance and there are some presets, too. There's no manual option for shutter speed / aperture / focus, you can somewhat force the camera to do the sort of thing you want, but this is really stretching it.The camera comes with built in effects and a quick retouch feature. They are actually not useless. There is a 2s or 10s selectable delay. The max video quality is 720p, the audio is acceptable, too. It has an image vibration reduction and a wind noise reduction mode.2 year warrantyRegistering your camera and subscribing to the newsletter will give you +1 yr warranty. Why not to buy?I can't think of any real reason. Check the competition, but this is a good all-arounder. Maybe if wireless instant sharing is important to you then go for a wifi / NFC version. Or if you fancy having a touchscreen then go for an Android model.

I found this camera very easy to set up
I found this camera very easy to set up, and the bonus is the battery and charger supplied with it,which means no more fiddling changing batteries. Zoom function is quite sensitive but very good. Not tried all the features yet but am looking forward to doing that

Great little camera.
Was a present for my husband and he is absolutely chuffed to bits with it. Picture quality is terrific and perfect as a point and shoot and fantastic value for a refurb. Delivery was super quick too with all documentation.

and I am still very happy with it
It's been a fair few months since I bought this camera, and I am still very happy with it. Point and click, with a few extras and not over complicated to use, which is a great thing! Prompt delivery and I am very happy!

Although not a camera buff I have owned a few in my time, so I must say for a point and shoot snapshot camera this is the tops. plus many other features, worth every penny.
