I have tried bobbin lace making years ago and couldn't past winding the bobbins. This book not only has east to understanding instructions but she holds your "hand" by clear, shape pictures for each step. I must say, within a couple of minutes, you are working simple but interesting projects. The bookworm was not only fun to make but I had no idea that beads could be added to bobbin lacing.Give it a try for simple instructions that will make you into a bobbin lace maker!

If you want to know how to make bobbin lace but struggle with where to start, I highly recommend getting this book. It will definitely help you with the essential lessons needed to be learned before starting any pattern books.

This has very clear instructions and pictures, perfect for starting out making bobbin lace. I like that some of the projects use colors and beads to make more contemporary designs, such as the "bookworm" bookmarks with bead eyes!I am also intrigued by the idea of making scarves, etc using knitting type yarns. That could be really fun, though scaling up will mean a much bigger pillow...This is a craft in which the basics are really simple, but it can get almost infinitely fussy. I've done a bit of it before, but look forward to trying these projects, especially in the colors, to get my groove back.Recommended for beginning bobbin lace makers who prefer contemporary to the basic classical approaches.

A good how-to guide that covers the basics of bobbin lace. It has a few bookmark patterns but the rest of the patterns in the book are for modern things like scarves and bags. If you are interested in traditional or historical patterns this is not the right book for you.

I am new to Bobbin Lace and have never seen or done any before. This is my first book on the subject and I'm already on my third piece! :) They have you make book marks to practice the different stitches. I made the third one in for my first piece and it turned out great. I did that because the first one looked too hard but as it turns out, it was super easy and after reading and looking through the book more, I saw that they have it set up to have you learn a different stitch with each new project. The pictures are great and give very good step by step instructions. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in bobbin lace and if you are a beginner, you can use this book like your personal class doing each step and each new stitch as you work through the book. I am attaching pictures of the beginning of my first piece. I don't have my finished bookmark saved on this computer.

I had already borrowed this book from the library before I decided to purchase my own copy so I knew what to expect. The book itself arrived in good condition, and in a timely manner.

I have made bobbin lace for 12 years now and do demo's trying to get people interested in learning, this book is the one myself and many other bobbin lace makers recommend for beginners. They have very detailed instructions with lots of close up pictures. They also include how to move the lace up on the pillow and using a block pillow things many books don't include. Bobbin Lace is one of the most challenging fiber crafts to learn from a book, but this book makes it possible to learn the basics on your own. Although it is definetly easier with a little help from an experienced lacemaker. The scarf patterns show a more contemperary side to lacemaking, since many young people think of it as just being doilies and not something that would fit into their life. This is definetly the best beginner book on the market right now.

Good basic book to teach the twist and cross, and the stitches they make up. Covers a variety of techniques with color pictures to make things more clear. Easily completed a bookmark and am looking forward to making more.
