Morning Star Japanese Incense Sticks 200 Sticks & Holder (Frankincense)

Love the scent. Smells like I would expect! Sometimes I feel like it burns down pretty quickly but the smell lingers a little bit even after the sticks has been burned though. Will buy again when I finally run out.

This is hands down my favorite incense. I use several sticks a day for Zazen and shrine offerings. This incense is NOT Frankincense (in fact there is no detectable scent of Frankincense). Instead, this appears to be a lighter Japanese version of Indian stick incense (Dhoop- sometimes sold in the U.S. under the brand name- Nag Champa), which I imagine might explain the weird choice in naming this incense (Dhoop usually has some frankincense in it). The actual scent carries notes of cedar, cinnamon, and driftwood. Comparing Dhoop with this, Morningstar "Frankincense" is less sweet, less smoky and much lighter. Perfect for those who don't want to be choking while they meditate! The sticks are traditional for Zen, and will last 25-30 minutes- this is a feature, not an error. These kinds of sticks are used in lieu of clocks in a Zendo for timing meditation periods.

Love this brand- the scents are all great, they are easy to light and burn very well. We use this everyday as it is not overpowering and smells really good

This is a natural scent that I find so comforting and relaxing. This seems like good quality incense and doesn't have a cloying or artificial effect. There is a lingering fragrance that remains but it just smells like fresh cut wood or herbs. Really nice.

These short-time incense sticks are light but fully scented. Won’t gag you with heavy smoke but are great for bathroom, kitchen, anywhere you want a fresh atmosphere. Living room! I personally like the Cedarwood the best for light, wood scent.

The aroma of Frankincense is very similar to that of Myrrh. With the Morning Star brand, their Myrrh is much more fragrant the Frankincense. I do not know if this is a natural difference between the resins, or a function of the concentration they use in the sticks.I would have rated it a full 5 stars if it had a bit stronger aroma.

If you are looking for true Frankencense, look elsewhere. I burn actual frankencense resin and it smells totally different. I believe this is some blend of frankensence but it is quite nice. Also, I use Shoyeido incense as well and they are really good but way more expensive. For everyday burning, I use Morning Star, for special occasions, I use Shoyeido. Both are quality products

Four stars for “longevity” because this is only about a half-hour burn. That’s the design but since most people like a long burn I think it’s important. For me this works because these little sticks are perfect for timing meditation. No disruptive clock-watching that can really take you out of it.This is a very pretty woodsy version of frankincense. I love it for the winter. The low smoke aspect is great for the asthmatic in the home, burning isn’t a problem for them. I go back for this item all the time.

These are very pleasant and don’t have the nasty wooden core.
