"So far, so good" UPDATE, 5 YEARS ON
Even though all 3 of its handles heat up during use to where some form of hand protection is required just to lift its lid (a design defect that could easily have been avoided) & even though its delicate non-stick cooking surface requires those specially coated tools & means you can't cut anything up in the pan, I give this piece of kitchen hardware full marks for its overall utility, sizable cooking surface, thermal sensitivity, and handsome appearance. Of course I've had it for only a month & used it only a few times, so it's possible that it won't last as well as the 47-year-old Sunbeam it replaced. But I'm happy with it so far. It's now July, 2010, 5 years after the above comments, and I can now say for sure that it won't last 47 years. I've not had the temperature regulation problems some other users have experienced. The unit has been fully reliable in all of its mechanical functions. Its habit of "spitting" liquid out under its lid onto the kitchen counter, even if set only to simmer, is annoying. But what sounds its death knell is the deterioration of its non-stick surface. Knowing how sensitive such surfaces are, I've been meticulous in avoiding the use of any utensils that could scar it, or even rub it the wrong way. Always hand-washed it with gentle detergents so as to make sure than no chemical action could cause the coating to degrade. Still, after 5 years, the surface is clearly wearing out. I'm not savvy enough to know if this particular synthetic can be "renewed" in any acceptable way, but I suspect that I'll be in the market for a new electric skillet soon. Whether this product is an example of "planned obsolescence" I'm also in no position to say, but I am seriously disappointed that a cooker that cooked so well for 5 years should have to be abandoned just because its non-stick surface gave out.

Two failed heating elements....horrible warranty policy. Save money and buy a lower end product...it'll last longer.
I tried, Cuisinart. I reallly, really tried. This electric skillet looks so nice....its lightweight, easy to clean and sturdy. I have had great luck with other products (food processor, toaster, blender), but I have to vent my frustration with this product and your company. I have never left a negative rating for a product on Amazon...but want to shed light on this for anyone considering this unit. This was a Christmas gift to replace my 14 year old Rivals electric skillet (~$20 from Target). Based on the brand reputation, my prior experience with the brand and the other favorable reviews, I decided to ask for this model over multiple other options that were less than half the cost. I use an electric skillet about twice a month to sautee, pan fry, etc. Its been part of my cullinary repitoire for over 20 years. Why not splurge on a good one? Well, I'll tell you why....this product simply failed to work properly. It would preheat really nicely and quickly....however as soon as I would start to cook, the temperature would drop and the heating element would not come back on. I would turn the dial to crank the heat and it would kick in again. Ultimately, I'd end up with the dial cranked to max and it would still stop heating. Obviously this creates an inefficient cooking environment. I contacted Cuisinart 3 months later, and they happily offered to replace the defective unit under warranty.....if I pay $10 for them to ship me a new unit AND pay to ship the unit back (another $10). Basically, 20% of the total cost of the product just to get a replacement for a defective unit. OK...fine. The warranty exchange went smoothly. Got my new unit. Cooked great for a couple of cooks. Then....same exact issue starts happening. I contact Cuisinart and they happily offer to replace the defective unit that was replacing a defective unit....if I pay another $10 for them to ship me a new unit AND pay to ship the unit back (another $10) as per the fine print of the warranty. That puts me at $40 (or 40% of the unit cost) just to take another chance that I don't get a lemon. I understand paying the shipping on the first defective unit, but the second one seems like it should be on them. I am not going to continue playing this game. I have decided to share my experience with this product and the Cuisinart brand/policy. I am going to save the $20 to return/replace the 2nd defective unit and buy a new version of the $20 one that lasted me 14 years. There is no magical technology or benefit of this unit over the $20-40 ones from lower end brands. An electric heating element heating a metal cooking vessel with a feedback loop. Clearly the extra money does not by a better temperature sensor with a narrower range. I am likely to not buy a Cuisinart product again.

Reasonably Good, but not fantastic
My standards may be too high, because I'm not sure any electric skillets are made today that compare favorably with the one I've had for over 30 years. One of the reviews I read before purchasing this skillet said that the skillet cooked evenly. I would disagree. This skillet cooks as evenly as any typical electric skillet, which is not very evenly at all. It's fine for any kind of liquid or oil based cooking, but even frying bacon in it produces uneven results. I rate this unit as highly as I do because this is my only complaint, and as I've said, I highly doubt it's specific to this model. Beyond the uneven cooking, this unit is a pleasure to use. It's very solidly built, seems to have a very good non-stick surface, heats quickly, has plenty of room compared to the typical skillet, and is overall a very well-crafted unit. UPDATE: After using this product frequently for nearly four years, I stand by my original comments. It's held up great! It cooks today as well as it ever did. The nonstick service is nearly flawless. The uneven cooking is no different than all the other newer electric skillets I've tried. One more comment. The lid fits perfectly into the skillet with the lid upside down. Problem: If you store the lid upside down that way, the lid's handle touches the non-stick service and mars it somewhat over time. Not badly, but noticeable to a perfectionist like me. If you store this skillet with the lid on, have the lid right-side up.

Best skillet I have owned
We have had it for a year in a half now. Love this skillet!! Cooks our food evenly. I love that it does not have the cancerous toxic non stick spray on it. I felt this was the best economic price safe skillet. We

I love this electric skillet, it is well worth the cost. I have bought several electic skillets throughout the years and have experienced, uneven heat distribution resulting in items around edges cooking too fast while items in the centre slow to cook, long clean-up times, you name it. I thought this time I would spend a little more and I am sure glad I did. This skillet heats up quickly and the heat is evenly distributed. The cooking surface is large, skillet is sturdy and the clean-up is so easy.

I bought this electric skillet because of the wonderful reviews. It was an expensive item, but willing to buy quality. I was extremely disspointed. It did not heat up properly and did not stay at the inadequate temperature anyway. Had to take the food out and fry on my stovetop. Perhaps I got a faulty unit, but this is the first time I have ever returned any item.
