Another magnificent Buck product, brings together elegance, functionality, and incredible manufacturing ingenuity. Pairs wonderfully with the Buck hexam assist 262 model. Slightly different mechanisms of opening and locking, both delightful. This company is an American national treasure.

Having grown up in a family who enjoyed all activities outdoors, I have been around Buck knives all my life. They were, and are, the gold standard my dad and uncles judged all other work or hunting knives by. I was looking for a pocketknife I could carry around for general utility that wasn’t big and bulky but large and durable enough to be of real use on DIY projects, or out in the woods or along a stream bank. This Buck lock blade pocketknife was a “no-brainer” to order when it popped up in my search. The knife is beautifully done and engineered for durability and function. The Modified Clip style of the blade is perfect shape for the work I intend to use it for. The 3 ¼ inch blade comes out of the box incredibly sharp and should be fairly straightforward to keep that way if it’s anything like the Buck knives of my youth. The carbon fiber handle has a good hand-feel and is easy to maintain a non-slip grip. The knife also features the ability to open it with a quick snap of the wrist and lock it into place. Release is accomplished with a simple button push. There is a pocket clip to help keep it secure and within easy reach. I must point out that the knife I ordered, the carbon fiber 744 Sovereign (the mini is a 743), is not manufactured in the U.S. as a lot of Buck knives are but is imported. In this case, the Country of Origin is China, which is stamped on the box. This is not a big deal to me, but I have known some Buck-purists who want only a U.S. made Buck knife. With that said, the Amazon item description relays that these knives are covered under the “…Buck Knives' Forever Warranty.” I checked the Buck website (who is also the seller for these knives on Amazon) to verify just what was covered and these knives have the same lifetime, defect free warranty as any other Buck knife—nice! Overall, I am super stoked over my new Buck knife. I can’t wait to show it off to my little brother which I know will have him all sorts of “jelly” over it. He has a birthday coming up so perhaps I’ll order another for him—only the 743 Mini Sovereign as he is my little brother after all—Ha!

Ordered this for a little everyday carry piece for weekends and around the house. The first impression is fantastic, with great branding on the Buck packaging and clear indications of a lifetime warranty. The knife itself has a carbon black blade and a carbon fiber handle. I'm not sure if it's real cf or just composite, but it is super lightweight and polished to a smooth surface. There is an integrated belt hook on the side as well. The blade locks with a push button release near the base of the blade on the handle, and it is easy to operate one-handed. There is no "back" between the handle layers, it's just open when you have the blade extended. That seems a little off, but it saves weight I guess and functionally is probably fine. Maybe some dust and lint will collect in the gap over time, that would be my only concern. If so, it would probably be easy to clean out.

This is a good quality knife that falls in line with other Buck knives. It is well made and looks like it can take a beating. The blade is sharp with thumb flippers on both sides. Unfortunately, the pocket clip is not reversible. I was expecting the weight to be lighter dues to the carbon fiber. It is actually the stainless knife coated in carbon. So, this knife turns out to be on the heavier side. The thumbstuds are well made, but not as easy to use as a flipper. The lock mechanism seems to be a little weak as well. Ignoring those things, this still makes a good everyday carry.
