Reliable scale with good app, decently priced
I’ve had this scale since August. And I recommend this product. Body weight is accurate and reliable. Fat/lean mass composition might be inaccurate (vs DEXA scan), but like with any scale, use these numbers for tracking trends. Don’t live and die by the actual body fat numbers. It’s very easy to set up with a phone. I have an iPhone 15 Pro. (Tip: Don’t panic if the numbers don’t sync immediately. Just give it a few moments or just press the bluetooth button after the weigh in to sync the latest readings. Also, you’ll find the next day that you use it, it will just sync all the readings it has locally stored but hasn’t transmitted to your phone.)Body weight measurement is very consistent and reliable. You will rarely have moments where the number changes after consecutive weigh ins. And sometimes that will have more to do with feet placement, body movement/positioning while the scale is “reading” your weight, and floor evenness.Yes, during dryer seasons the scale will throw a reading error. But I fixed that issue by just wetting my feet and then drying it a little on the bathroom rug. It’s not a product issue but just the nature of the technology. Also, wipe/clean your scales occasionally.Body composition (fat/lean mass and percentage) is not accurate. I train 6 times a week and have had 2 DEXA scans (not NHANES calibrated). I’ve noticed that the Omron scale for me is about 5 percentage points off compared to my scans. But interestingly, the body fat percentage reading is about ~1 percentage point off the DEXA reading of the body fat in my legs. (I’m female and bottom heavy.) This makes sense because it’s running the current up to my legs from my feet and I don’t think it’s able to tell what my body fat is in the top half of my body.Like with any home scale (even body fat readings like DEXA scan), you’ll never get a perfectly accurate reading of fat/lean composition and there’s always a margin of error. Home scales will definitely have a larger margin especially if you’re athletic/train a lot and if your body fat distribution is not “average” — both are very much my case. So use the readings for tracking progress, and don’t sweat the details.Added screenshots of the app to show how helpful and clean the app is too. This is what I mean by tracking trends over numbers.

Japan quality healthcare scale
I love OMRON and their products. I own their blood pressure machine and thermometer. Love keep tracking my stats. Easy to set up and use you get to use the app as well to keep all your recording in your phone. Once you pair it updates the app automatically as long as your phone is nearby. Definitely recommend it

Getting more confidence in it after a few weeks' use
I was slightly sceptical about the claims for what this thing measures but it certainly appears to, and consistently. It's keeping track of my weight and various percentages - skeletal muscle, body fat, visceral fat as well as the (pretty useless) BMI. The scales recognise you as you step on if you have multiple users set up in it (easy process). The OMRON app is good ; I already had that matched with my blue toothed OMRON X70 blood pressure cuff so you can keep a record over any period you like, pretty much, and then if you ever get to see a GP again in your lifetime, you can hand over a printed report showing averages and so on. Saves the GP / practice nurse sighing and starting to lecture you when your White Coat Hypertension comes to the fore as he / she fits their cuff.It took 3 attempts to get the Viva scales to talk with the app and to pair to my phone but now it's done it works very well indeed for both OMRON devices. It also all talks to the Apple Health app so if you've got an iPhone / iPad you can indulge your "worried well" instincts to a fare-thee-well.If you have trouble pairing the scales with your phone I recommend going back and reading the instructions word by agonising word, and if that doesn't help, then OMRON have a very good how-to video on YouTube. Also when using, it seems crucial that the device is on a perfectly flat area of hard floor (make sure there's no "rocking" before you step onto it).It certainly looks the part, it's easy to clean, and results come back very quickly. If your phone is on and within range, updating the app is almost instantaneous. I'm a happy bunny.
