Are the usb fast charging?

Given that modern devices charge at over 20w and these usb ports can only provide 12w, these aren’t fast charging. Look for minimum power supply of 18w, or even better get a USB C PD charger that will supply 30w+ if you want a measure of future proofing. The fastest phones charge now at 100w plus and Qualcomms latest QuickCharge 5 standard is also over 100w.

Are the twin USB ports live all the time or can they be switched off to save energy?

Dear APC Valued Customer, To answer your question, the USB ports should always be live as long as the unit is connected to your mains. However, USB ports don't consume power by themselves.
