Easy to install - the cable locks are a little fiddley but they work good
This is a great little kit. Love that it included a metal cable lock and screen protector. The main thing to be aware of is that the cable locking bracket is deeper for the USB-C so if you were using an angled cable you might need to get a straight one to fit in. Or you can remove the USB-C lock (leaving the HDMI lock) and use your existing cable. Both options are good. The extra cold shots and mounting points are nice. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade for your Shinobi 2.

Fits my Shinobi perfectly. I have several Smallrig cages and all are well made and are a good value.

Not centered
It's nice and I like the included sun cover. The only thing that made this lose a star was the fact that the nato mount at the bottom is off center so the screen is slightly more the the left. I was so used to my screen being in the center that this little shift is a little off and it bothers me that it doesnt line up in the center but that's because of my ocd

Great cage from smallrig
Pretty good cage, no major complaints, I do find it a bit strange the center hole on the bottom is 3/8ths and not 1/4". Not a huge deal but is a bit odd imo. The monitor isn't big/heavy enough in my opinion to require 3/8ths. The cable protection/clamp works as designed, have lost a few hdmis in the past without it.

Sent a used as new or QC was very poor on this batch. (updated)
Arrived in what to me looks like used condition. The screen protector was FILTHY. Update: Seller responded and offered to make it right. I really appreciate that level of customer service.

You’ll find out it doesn’t fit perfectly
You can’t put all the screws on it, it will twist. Not a very good fit.

I originally bought the Atomos Shinobi without the cage and quickly realised how hard it was to see the screen outdoors. Adding this SmallRig cage with the sunhood made a huge difference — my shots are now so much clearer and easier to frame. The build quality is solid. If you use the Shinobi II or Shinobi GO, this kit is absolutely worth it.

If you’re serious about protecting your Atomos Shinobi II while maximizing its potential on set, this SmallRig cage is a no-brainer. I’ve tested it in both studio and run-and-gun environments, and it’s exceeded expectations. Build Quality: The cage is incredibly robust yet surprisingly lightweight. It’s made from precision-machined aluminum alloy, which gives it a solid feel without weighing down your rig. I’ve had zero issues with flex or fatigue, even after long shooting days. Mounting Options: This thing is a Swiss Army knife for mounting. It’s covered in 1/4”-20 and 3/8”-16 threaded holes, plus ARRI-style anti-twist mounts—perfect for attaching arms, wireless transmitters, mics, or even a top handle. The NATO rail on the side is a smart touch for quick-release accessories. Smart Design Features: • The included sun hood is a lifesaver outdoors—no more squinting at your screen. • Screen protector keeps the display scratch-free without affecting visibility. • Cable clamps are rock solid and prevent accidental disconnections, especially useful when using HDMI or power cables in tight setups. • The cage leaves all ports and buttons fully accessible, which is crucial when you’re adjusting settings mid-shoot. Final Thoughts: This cage transforms the Shinobi II from a fragile monitor into a rugged, modular tool that’s ready for any shoot. Whether you’re mounting it on a gimbal, shoulder rig, or tripod, it integrates seamlessly and adds peace of mind. Highly recommended for filmmakers who want durability, flexibility, and professional-grade protection—all without adding bulk.

Like most items in the SmallRig ecosystem, the cage is very well made. It holds the Shinobi II monitor securely and the HDMI and USBC cable clamps are useful. However, if you want to mount the monitor centrally on top of a camera cage handle (as I do) this isn't possible. The screw that connects the cage to the monitor is centrally positioned on the bottom of the cage which means the only mounting points for a bracket are off-centre. And while the SmallRig designers thoughtfully provided a nato rail on the base of the cage, they neglected to come up with a suitable mounting option for this. A frustrating omission!
