A Sticky Gnat Grabber with a But
The Safer Home Indoor Fly Trap is a little fighter against those pesky gnats that seem to magically appear in your houseplants or fruit bowl. Here's a closer look at this gnat-catching gadget to help you decide if it's the right weapon for your war on tiny flies.Gnat Terminator (Eventually):Good news: This trap is effective for catching gnats, especially after a few days of operation. Those little gnat suckers will be history...well, stuck to a history-making sticky card, at least.Not-so-great news: It doesn't address the root cause of the gnat infestation. While it will trap existing gnats, it won't stop more from hatching or flying in from elsewhere. So, you might need to combine this trap with other methods to truly vanquish the gnat menace.Chemical-Free Fly Fighter:A big plus: This trap is completely chemical-free. This makes it a safe choice for homes with curious children or rambunctious pets. You can breathe easy knowing there are no harmful fumes or sprays involved.A Sticky Situation:Think flypaper: The trap uses a sticky card to capture gnats. This is similar to classic fly strips, and while effective, it might not be the most aesthetically pleasing solution for your home decor.Slow and Steady Wins the Race (Against Gnats):Be patient: The trap might not catch a ton of gnats right away. Give it a few days to work its magic and for the gnats to discover their sticky doom. The Verdict:The Safer Home SH502 Indoor Fly Trap is a decent option for a chemical-free way to catch gnats. It's easy to use and works moderately well. However, it's not a silver bullet solution and won't eliminate the source of the gnats. Consider using it alongside other methods to completely eradicate those gnat invaders.

Always keep your expectations realistic...
I recently found myself with a fruit fly infestation like no other. Desperate for an answer, I sought out all advice available. One suggestion was these Safer traps. I also learned about the commercially available red containers with holes in the top that hold bait and an old folk solution of putting water, sugar, dish soap, and vinegar in a saucer.Well, borne out of despiration, I did all three, yes, the flies were that bad. Here's what I learned...Each of the traps caught a lot of flies and each had some pros and cons. The Safer trap worked quite well. There are two instructions they give that must be followed: change the card at least every 21 days and, since it works best in the dark, it must be the only light source in the room. When I made sure it was truly dark, it worked better. I also put it close to where the flies hung out rather than thinking I could draw them away from problem areas (which didn't work). While the liquids dried up (and I had to clean out containers with dead bugs...uck!) the card was mess free and easy to change. It was sticky enough to easily catch the flies I had.An avid reader of reviews, 1 Star reviews tend to be a reflection of the person, 2 Stars, the product, and the sum of 4 & 5 Stars evidence of the quality of the product. I found Safer to have a high aggregate of 4 & 5 stars. There are replacement cards with higher, so I might try those in the future, but for now, this seems to be a good quality product that does the job in combination with other methods that is well worth the money I spent. I wanted the flies gone in a day, but given their life cycle and more hatching after my initial killing spree, I had to be realistic about what any product was capable of. Overall, I have already recommended this to friends and would to you too.
