NO MORE MESS!
Added the Funoto drain valve toy Subaru Outback. Makes changing oil even easier. I've got the nipple version, it's easy to install. The attached hose goes straight into an empty oil jug, open the valve and let it drain. No messy pain and no oil drips on the floor. Simple, clean and easy. Definitely recommend.

BEST THING I EVER BOUGHT FOR MY CAR!!!
I heard about these about 15 years ago and I was always skeptical about how well they worked or if they'd hold up over the years. My car is a 2017 Subaru Legacy 2.5L 4-cyl and an issue with changing the oil is that it has a big plastic guard underneath the engine with a small, rectangular cutout to access the drain plug. The problem is that once you remove the plug, oil will splash all over causing it to get under the guard, not to mention the force splashing once it hits the drain pan. Finally after countless times having to use a lot or rags and brake parts cleaner to clean up the mess regardless of how careful I tried to be, this past summer after watching many videos and reviews, I decided to get one. Every review seemed to have nothing bad to say and how it made messy oil changes a thing of the past---and BOY were they right! If you have a Subaru with the splash guard like I have and don't want to remove it every time or get oil all over the place, you need this Fumoto valve! I got done with my oil change a lot faster that when I did it the old way. It comes with its own gasket, however, my Subaru uses a metal crush washer which I had extras, so I used that in place of the supplied gasket and it works just fine. One thing I'll point out is that during the installation it may be necessary to remove the plastic guard, as tightening it down required me to come at it underneath from the side of my A-arm suspension with a long reach wrench to install it. Removing and reinstalling the guard completely would have made easier, but it is possible to do as long as you have a long-reach open-end wrench. If I did it all over again, I'd remove the guard. It does not leak or seep at all. Something I did just for peace of mind to keep any dirt and road grime out of the end of the petcock is I bought an assorted pack of rubber vacuum caps from my local auto parts store and put it over the end. Another thing I did to make draining easier was bought some 3/8" ID x 1/2" OD clear vinyl tubing from my local farm supply store and put it over the end of the petcock and routed into the hole of my drain pan. It fits very snugly, but that's exactly what you want. Some people had concerns about drain time taking longer due to the fact that it's obviously coming out of a smaller hole than if it was just straight out of the drain pan, but honestly, I didn't notice it taking any longer than if I'd done it the old way. After I opened the valve, by the time I slid out from underneath the car, got my new filter ready, opened the fill cap, installed my funnel, and threw the old filter in my used tub, the oil was completely done draining. Really no longer time, plus the fact I had ZERO mess to clean up due to no oil over splash. With all that, I'd say the overall oil change actually took LESS time in total. I would highly recommend anyone who has the same car, or any vehicle at that, wanting to avoid oil splash cleanup, trust me when I say it'll be NIGHT AND DAY and you'll be so happy that you got it! You'll never want to go back to the old way!

Don't Wait
Do you change your own oil? Tired of having it spill all over you when you do the job? IF you answered yes to either of those questions, you should seriously consider getting the Fumoto. Changing oil is to so easy now, it's almost not fair. I had purchased a 17 Outback and when I went to change the oil for the first time I found out the plug was rounded by the previous owner, This made removing the plug difficult at best. I started researching a replacement plug and the Fumoto came up in the search. After reading multiple reviews on here and elsewhere I decide to give it a try. Boy am I glad I did. By placing a short line on the nipple and running into my collection container I can avoid any spills. Once set, all I have to do is turn the valve on and let it drain. No fuss, no mess. I know there are other versions out there, but this one has performed flawlessly for me and I highly recommend. A word of warning for some cars this device may stick down or out into an area where it could be damaged by debris. Check your clearances before settling one. Last thing you want is to have the valve shear off and lose all your oil while driving. I found the Outback to be tucked up and way far enough that I was not worried.

So fast and easy, you can change your oil while wearing a tuxedo!
I have a FUMOTO valve in each of my 3 vehicles. The day you install the valve will be the last time you get oil all over the place! My valves all have the nipple feature on them so you can put a piece of tubing on it to direct the dirty oil into a container for recycling. I put the car on some ramps and then hook the tube on to the valve and place the free end in to a plastic jug. I open the valve and go do something else for at least 10 mins. When I return, I close the valve and remove the tubing and dirty oil. I then break the oil filter loose before I cover it with a plastic shopping bag and proceed to remove. Wipe down the area around the valve and filter before filling the new filter with fresh oil and screwing it in place. Return to the oil fill and fill with fresh oil. Back underneath to check for any leaks and then replace the breastplate and then check the dipstick to see if you have the proper oil level. Close the hood and drink a beer. (You've earned it!)

I had my doubts but it's proven itself time and again!
The valve itself is of excellent quality. The lever and spring are fitted well, just the right amount of tension. However, I overthink everything, so I installed this with a bit of anxiety. Would it leak? Would it catch on a rock offroad and be destroyed? Would it accidently open and ruin my engine? Most of those worries have proven entirely unfounded. It did take some trial and error to figure out how to install it so that it wouldn't seep. It came with sort of a fiber washer, which I tried, but I ended up just using an OE crush washer instead. FYI: You'll probably need an open-ended or adjustable wrench to install it. I did recently break the plastic safety clip but that was my fault. Would definitely recommend. Tool-less oil changes are so nice!
