Is this product from the same manufacturer as the Zoe Smooth and Savory treats?

Yes. Why do you ask? I purchase these for my sick cat that has trouble swallowing.  I am concerned about the quality because they come from Thailand. The Catit (Rolf Hagen) company is NOT forthcoming AT ALL. Which is not a good sign. Does anyone know anything more about their quality?

Looks like Thailand. Distributed through Canada and US. One of my cats love them but my other cat won't eat them. I buy the chicken and liver flavor. Hope this helps.

Someone recommended this product to me as a treat for my ferrets. I'm very, very careful about what I feed, so I always research ingredients with which I'm unfamiliar. It's sometimes difficult to locate adequate research on ferrets though, so when I can't find enough information on ferrets, I turn to studies on cats (as obligate carnivores their diets and digestive systems are nearly identical). I didn't look too much into the issue of where these treats are produced (Thailand, but I don't know what the quality controls are in that country). I was more interested in the ingredients and whether they are safe for my ferrets (or my cats).

These treats contain an ingredient called "rice bran oil," which I wasn't familiar with but since have learned is a popular supplement both for some animals and for humans (the research re benefits is not entirely conclusive, but it seems to look promising). It's highly prized for horses in particular. However, horse and human digestive systems are radically different from cat (and ferret) systems.

According to my research on rice bran or rice bran oil, it CAN cause several AND severe digestive problems in cats. Curiously, it's commonly added to cat foods, which I've never encountered. I feed very high quality foods, none of which happen to contain this ingredient. This "treat" does, and that might explain why so many people who tried it and left 1-star reviews found that their cats were experiencing horrible digestive upset.

In addition to the digestive issues that rice bran oil causes, rice bran has the undesirable effect of depleting taurine levels, which we know are vital to cat (and ferret) health, in particular their heart health. This Catit treat does include taurine in the list of ingredients, and perhaps that counters the effect of the rice bran, but it's hard to know something like that for certain when a manufacturer doesn't list the actual percentages of every ingredient in their product.

I have decided that I will not be serving this product to either my ferrets or my cats. Whether they like the stuff or not, there are healthier alternatives available.
