The reviews were not wrong :(
The packaging and the candies are absolutely beautiful but the flavoring is just plain sugar. I read the reviews but hoped that they were wrong; they weren’t. All the jellies have the same flavor, plain sugar taste. No bean paste whatsoever. I have heard of wagashi jellies having bean paste in the middle and description in amazon said it was an ingredient; i have no clue where lol. I mean they taste good but, definitely not what i expected and not worth $25

"Wagashi"
There are a lot of good reviews, so maybe I just got some old ones, but mine were not that great.First off, they aren't traditional wagashi. Wagashi tend to be made from a type of mochi and adzuki bean paste. These are either just sugar crusted bean paste or something like a gumdrop.Secondly, the bean paste in some were ROCK HARD. I'm not even exaggerating, I had to smash the filling of one flower candy with a hammer to even be able to tell what the inside was supposed to be.Super dissapointed since they look so good and they don't actually taste bad :(

Love Japanese sweets? Try these!
I was stationed in Japan for a while and had a chance to sample traditional sweets like these. They're a unique texture (kind of like hard jelly) with sugar and sometimes a mild flavor of fruit. The sweetness is very mild, despite how they look. Two of them were like powdered sugar with a mild sweetness as well. Not for everyone, honestly--if you want something super sweet, these aren't for you. But it is sweet enough to enjoy and just have one more piece! The packaging came in good, and all the items were in order. They look the same as in the picture. Will order again when I need more!

Cute
These were pretty & obviously very sweet. The craftsmanship of the candy is quite good, however the packaging was a bit lacking. It was merely sytrofoam material posing as wood. However, the wrapping was beautiful. The candies were just jelly, marshmellow, & sugar, with no particular flavor. Reminded me a bit of peeps. I'm not sure if its common to pay this much for candies like this in japan but I certainly find it a bit over priced (perhaps because its being imported?). I'm italian & I grew up eating intricately crafted marzipan that were much cheaper. However, it was still a fun & exciting experience to try something new from Japan & to appreciate the candy making art.

its just colorful sugar cubes
Flavor profile of these are minimal, texture is also the same as you would expect in a cheap sugar candy, similar to the confectionery you get on the eyes of a holiday gummy. It is not good. If you like things for aesthetics, then go right ahead, or just like eating plain sugar cubes, I'd pass on this product.

Gorgeous display and a plastic potleaf....
These are kind of expensive for gel candies but they are amazing. Not all the candies are gel/gummies however. There were four peices I could only identify as possible freezedried, sweetened rice cake. They were hard as rocks and you can't bite though them, but have to let them slowly dissolve on your tongue. They were good, but I'd personally prefer more of the gels. The candies are not super sweet unlike most American candies, definitely good with tea. The little plastic leaf had us laughing.

10/10 presentation, meh taste
The candies as well as the box were very well made and aesthetically pleasing. However, the same cannot be said about the taste. There were two categories: half of them tasted like slightly flavored sugar cubes while the the other half were made of some sort of gelatin substance, but there weren't chewable like gummies. Overall, there wasn't anything unique to the taste or texture of the candies and I was quite disappointed.

Very Sugary Wagashi
I had different types of wagashi before, and these are good, but very much on the gummi/candy/very sweet side. It was a different taste than wagashi I had in the past, so I was a little surprised, but it wasn't bad in any way. Just know if you want a mild sweet, this isn't it.
