Quality, Beauty, and Functionality...
I've been wanting a lead holder for a while now, hemming and hawing and resisting most I saw. Until this one. The barrel is just gorgeous, a lovely periwinkle blue. It is a solid, heavy weight. The lead is nicely chunky. It feels good, solid, and comfortable in my hand. The lead is lovely and soft.

Really solid lead holder
First off, the image used in the product description is no longer accurate - the current model of this lead holder is the same color, but the text on the barrel is different - other than that what you see and what you get are identical. This is a very nice lead holder for 5.6mm lead. Construction is all metal and the finish is a metallic blue that seems very durable. It is very simple to advance or replace the lead with a simple push of the end cap. There is a sharpener located in the end cap that works fairly well, just unscrew the cap and point the lead. When replacing the cap I have found it useful to hold both the chrome tip and the body/barrel while screwing the end cap back on to prevent loosening the chrome tip. Other than that, which is a very minor quibble, this is a fantastic lead holder.

Love how this feels in my hand
Love how this feels in my hand. Great weight and size and the matte texture on the grip is very pleasant. Almost feels like wood (it seems to actually be aluminum). Looks to be very well made and should stand up to a lot of use. I didn't expect much out of the end cap sharpener because ones I've had on other lead holders were lackluster, but this thing actually works pretty well considering how small and simple it is. You legitimately don't need to lug around a pencil sharpener with this if you don't want to. This lead holder and Koh I Noor's 5.6mm leads are now my main pencil combo of choice for sketching.

Good Pencil - No Instructions - Required Assembly
Item received before estimated date of delivery. Item received in a bag with no box nor instructions disassembled in four pieces. Once assembled it appears to work as advertised. The lead was worn and required sharpening. The cap/sharpener and "claw clutch" while functional, could use additional finishing. The claw is slightly out of alignment with slightly rough edges. The larger diameter barrel might require a modified grip to use comfortably. I am not sure that I can use this pencil for an extended period of time as compared to smaller diameter pencils. The hardness of the lead provided is appropriate for my intended usage.

Stay with the real deal!
Koh-I-Noor builds very robust clutch pencils. I bought this one to replace a magic pencil leaded one I had lost. I had it for years. I had plenty of magic leads and no holder for them. Actually I bought two because I discovered the butter soft graphite lead that was perfect for preliminary sketching on pen and ink illustrations. The graphite goes on easy and erases completely after I've inked it. I've bought a couple knock off pencils that look just like the Kohinoor 5340. They seem to be built well but they chew the heck out of my Kohinoor metallic leads. That doesn't happen with a genuine Kohinoor. Stick with the real one.

The holder itself does not need to be this thick
This is a good quality product, but I'm having a hard time drawing with it because of how dang thick it is. I like the thick lead, but it's uncomfortable for me to hold because of the diameter of the barrel, which is probably twice as thick as the lead. Also, the wooden pencil-like edges are kinda sharp, which doesn't help either. it's a bit better if I take off the barrel and just use the inner section, but then the spring digs into my fingers, and I find it's just not worth it. I haven't been using it as much as I thought I would when I first got it.

Quality leadholder
I just received this item, and it is a Versatil not a Hardtmuth, though they seem to be the same product. Not an issue, just making note. Also, some customers have mentioned the tendency for the tip to come loose from the barrel. A dab of Loctite blue will hold it, just be sure to not get it on the springs. Otherwise, this feels like a solid, durable writing/drawing tool that won't get destroyed in my bag, and I will be picking up a couple more for different lead hardnesses. Koh I Noor makes good products.

This lead holder is very well made, with the clutch gripping the lead very securely, and a "good enough" lead pointer. My only minor criticism could be that it's a bit heavy in hand (Koh-I-Noor also produces a plastic variant of this lead holder).

I love these metal lead holders. The Koh I noor refills (1 rather basic graphite is included) are magnificent. Charcoal, magic metallic. You’ll need lots of these beauties. I like the chunky feel of the metal. The plastic feels too cheap
