Fantastic Low-Carb Book for Foodies
This is a wonderful cookbook for people who love fine cooking, highly flavored food and playing with new ingredients and flavors. The recipes are imaginative, intensely flavored and a snap to throw together. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Although I like nothing better than spending hours in the kitchen, I've shocked my family several times since I've bought this book by lounging on the sofa reading until fifteen minutes before dinner and then throwing together one of the incredible meals in this book -- most of the recipes include a side dish in the 30-minute time limit. Usually there are a few recipes in a cookbook that you just love, a few that just don't work and most of the rest that are nothing special. I think I've cooked my way through about 3/4 of this book, and I've only run into one recipe that doesn't work -- the chocolate pots de creme (but the vanilla pots de creme are heaven, although I used all cream instead of milk) and one recipe that was disappointing, but I took some liberties with the recipe that I guess I shouldn't have. Everything else has been wonderful. The best part of the book is a chapter called "Vegetable Purees: Eleven Reasons Not To Eat Mashed Potatoes." These very creative purees help fill in the gap that is often left when you eliminate starchy sides from your plate. There's the standard cauliflower puree, but also a fennel puree, spinach, broccoli and ricotta puree, eggplant and red pepper puree and seven other incredible creations. The book is very careful about calories, and sometimes I think it skimps on fat a little -- using just a teaspoon of olive oil for sauteeing, for example. It also uses very little cheese, which is a nice change. The desserts are sweetened with aspartame packets and a small amount of sugar, but I've just substituted splenda and they work great. If you like highly flavored, trendy food that goes together in a flash, this is a great book.

Not what I was expecting.
I wont say it isnt a good cookbook. It has lots of recipes and the nutritional information for each (which I really appreciate). The recipes, however, are mostly not things I would do without planning ahead of time. There are many pricey ingredients and some I have never heard of. (Whole sections for Lamb and veal, pricey selections of fish, and several recipes with scallops and prosciutto.) I dont want to say it isnt practical but for myself these are not day-to-day friendly in most cases. If you are looking for a budget friendly book this is may not be for you. If you are not on budgetary restrictions and willing to try new things you may really enjoy it.I thought there would be more sides. I would rather have that that recipes for dressings and rubs.

Solid Cookbook
There are several really solid recipes. There are a few I wouldn't make, but that is the case with any cookbook, and the ratio of wouldn't make to would make seems pretty low. I didn't find a lot of ingredients I don't have, or crazy things I would only use once, which I always appreciate. I think I will get my money's worth out of this recipe book and it will save me time in having to go look for a bunch of other recipes in a bunch of different places, so that is very cool. There are times the writing is wordy or unclear. A little disappointed in that as it meant I had to reread things. I will say the book dedication put me off a little bit. "... the importance of being thin." While later in the introduction they discuss this diet (oversimplified word choice on my part) as a way to live a healthier lifestyle, the dedication didn't reflect that. I eat High Protein and Low Carb because I have to for health reasons, so that was a little disappointing to see right off the bat.I would recommend this cookbook to people with somewhat adventurous tastes and a desire to have more Hi Pro/Low Carb recipes in their kitchen.

Great Recipes for All!
We've made several recipes so far and everything has been good. Perfect for all tastes and appetites. We've tried the roast pork loin with apricots and mustard on red cabbage, the ball park mustard chicken on a bed of spinach, and the gin and orange juice soaked chicken with onions. All have been wonderful! Easy recipes to follow, great ideas. Definitely a good buy.

Too many special ingredients
I am not very impressed with this cookbook as I was looking for everyday type of ingredients and recipes. There are far too many ingredients that are things that are specialized and expensive for the amount required in the recipes. I doubt that I will use this cookbook often. I live in a small town and many of these ingredients would be hard to obtain in my grocery stores.

Excellent
I love this book. The recipes are so quick and easy.I have my whole family cooking with it, 2 teenage sons and my husband. All wanted to increase their protein intake to enhance their althletic abilities and loose a few pounds. The meals offer plenty of variety. We plan menus for the week and are slowly working our way through the book. One down side to the books reciepies I see would be for a single person and trying to buy the food on a budget.
