I'm not sure why the bad reviews exist. I used this and its awesome. It automatically detect if its a wood beam, metal beam, metal pipe, or electrical wires. It was 100% accurate on every hole I had to drill.

Poor Quality Assurance
Update…. The company contacted me and provided a replacement unit. Unit came with no damage. All functions are working. I checked distance and centerline against other devices and it is very accurate. The stud finder also works well, I like the visual display. I have not tested the thermal imaging or moisture neater yet. Appreciate the customer support! Really like the concept but first one I ordered the laser did not work. Returned it and the second came with broken display. Quality assurance is non existent.

Many functions, not all of them work properly
Many functions. Laser seems like a function that won't be useful, laser measurement is good and handy, but the more important function I got this tool for is the stud finder, and I've tried multiple time, different walls and locations, simply is inaccurate and no useful, if this would be use for a safety measure to protect wire or piping behind a wall, this tool can't be trusted.

Multipurpose DIYer's dream - thermal imaging as well - just needs a little patience
This device can be used to find both wooden and metal studs, measure distances, areas and volumes, detect AC lines in a wall, measure moisture content of wood and serve as a laser level and plumb. It even has a thermal imager, so you can check for hot and cold spots in construction, insulation or operating equipment. The device has a touchscreen to simplify usage. It's a little slow on some measurements, but it's reasonable for a non-professional multi-function device. It feels sturdy and has a rechargeable battery which increases convenience, as long as it's charged before your job. It's very easy to use, but feels designed for a light-duty user. Professionals like contractors would probably be best served with higher grade single-use devices. For the home user or DIYer it represents a pretty good value for the cost.

high quality tool
This is no toy. The display is very nice. Works well and battery life is so far excellent. Most of all I am impressed with the quality and sturdiness of the construction, much better than I expected at this price point, and the inclusion of a case is a nice bonus.

A really great digital multitool
This digital multitool comes with the unit itself, a case, a USB charging cable, a user manual, and the thermal imaging unit. The multitool can locate studs, both wood and metal behind walls, as well as wires, it also has a moisture detector, a laser measuring tool that through software can measure various types of spaces, and a thermal imager that can be attached and can provide a thermal image overlaid on a visual image in the device. The unit has control buttons but also has a touch screen that works well enough. It wa easy to use and appears to be made of reasonable quality material. We would recommend this multitool.Overall I believe it is of good value for the cost. As always I will evaluate long term and update with any new information

Jack of many trades, master of none (LifeBasis Stud Finder 5 in 1 Wall Scanner with Thermal Imager)
This is a versatile tool but a lot of compromises were made. The UI is a bit slow and clunky and the (default on) voice is needless and annoying. The voice can at least be turned off. The last used mode is not retained when powered off so you have to navigate back to the last used mode.As a stud finder it's ok. It found studs pretty reliably but the exact positioning varied on each pass. The slow updates to the display made determining the likely center all the more challenging. Power lines were not detected AT ALL and the stud type was often misidentified. There are much better stud finders out there are half the price.AC detection worked well when the probe could be brought very close to the conductor. It did not work through drywall.Distance measurement works well but likewise is a little slow to update. The level is nice but requires manually leveling. The built in level isn't perfectly accurate. A 1/4" tripod mounting hole is included.I imagine most are buying this for the thermal camera. That works quite well with a thermal overlay on top of a visible light camera image. The thermal overlay is slow to update and very low resolution but useful none the less. There are thermal camera add-ons for phones that work better now but the cheaper ones lack the visible light camera. So, overall, Jack of many trades but master of none.Although this features a USB-C charge port it cannot be used with USB-C chargers. USB-C PD power supplies were not triggered when connected. A USB-A to USB-C cable is included however and you can use pretty much any USB-A power source. (5V at up to 500mA.)
