You thought you knew what your music sounded like...
SYNOPSYS:The last thing I have time for is to write a review for anything. However, I’ve had so much time wasted with (what feels like) a shipping container's worth of sub-par products(despite a cornucopia of organically-sourced, positive reviews), I made a promise to myself that if ever I found a real quality product within the dense jungles of Amazon dot com, not only would I crow about it, I would try to include enough data points so that a like-minded individual might spend less time utilizing their Prime membership to buy sub-prime stuff.First impression:VERY POSITIVEPoint of view:AUDIOPHILE(as a hobby) BROADCAST POST PRODUCTION(as an occupation) Evaluation period:FIRST 24 HOURSState of mind:MOSTLY SOBERAverage noise floor(environment): 55.4 db Digital audio format:FLAC/APPLE “LOSSLESS” Digital audio player: VOX app on iOS, iTunes/iPhone 8+Audio sources: a) Billie Eilish - WHEN WE FALL ASLEEP… b) Led Zeppelin - PHYSICAL GRAFFITI(The Barry Diament RE-MASTER)c) Beastie Boys - PAUL’S BOUTIQUE(Remastered)Qualitative baseline: FOCUSRITE SCARLETT 212 audio interfaceEvaluation hardware:SONY MDR-7506(because prod sound guys/gals love ‘em)SONY MDR-V6 STUDIO(because post guys/gals love ‘em)KLIPSCH R6 earbuds(because they sucked the least)Pre-purchase misgivings: The last time I saw a digital-to-analog-converter being sold without sharing/disclosing sample rate was, let me think here.… Never. I double-checked the description on Amazon and soon discovered the same lack of info was mirrored on their company website. Also, I had no idea that DAC’s this small had made it into the collective mitts of the great unwashed- especially at this price. Is this thing for real? Here’s how they turned around my cynicism.USING THE TERA GRAND ADAPTER WITH; SONY MDR-7506:I can hear and feel a musical bottom-end where once there was none. Without the TG adapter, my iPhone(8+) is woefully ill-equipped to pushing sufficient power to convince the Japanese-made drivers into revealing why these headphones are the gold standard in film and television. Using the TG adapter, new details are revealed in the music I thought I was already familiar with- an observation that lends Creedence to anyone who bothered to argue the sub-par audio on the iPhone conspiracy theory. Perhaps this is why I found temporary solace in a pair of-KLIPSCH R6 EARBUDSWithout the TG adapter, the R6 is an order of magnitude better than the factory earbuds, and quite adept and smoothing the midrange and highs. However, I found an occasional preponderance of bass in enough of my music rendering artificial distortion on some tracks that sounded completely different on my reference systems. When the TG adapter is plugged in I immediately notice a much wider soundstage. Unfortunately, I’m not able to tell you much more than that because I’ve spent far greater time with the-SONY MDR-V6 STUDIOHaving a similar performance spec as the highly reputed MDR-7506, it’s hard to tell whether or not I’m really hearing an extra 15khz in frequency response, or if the older headphones sound a tad boomier due to thousands of hours of use vs. the newer V6's which are barely broken in. What’s unmistakable is the extra power, volume, and clarity that’s made available with the Terra Grand lightning adapter/DAC is plugged in.CONCLUSIONI’ll go ahead and assume why the boffins at Apple prioritized perfect looks over perfect audio was due to the fact that most of their customers would not be able to tell the difference- which is true for most end-users, save for a select group who love and appreciate their music so much that a portion of their hard-earned income is allocated to technology that enhances the quality of their listening experience. To all members of the latter, salvation cometh, my brothers and sistahs.Cheers to the engineers at Tera Grand for executing this deceptively simple concept that exists today as a well made piece of kit, that(depending on how valuable your music is to you), takes a thing we all thought we knew so well- and made it better. Good show.

Outstanding compatibility and fidelity
This is the first aftermarket dongle for lightening to 1/8" jack where the inline mic works as well as controls. I was amazed by this. What's much more impressive is that the fidelity of these DAC is outstanding and I experience much less distortion across the the full dynamic range on 15Ω dual-driver headphones from as low as 7 Hz. In fact, they performed flawlessly where other expensive amplifiers which no mic headphone controls (only the amps own buttons) worked at all. The Apple dongle doesn't really do a good job with larger headphone drivers which is why so many people get in line amps for their expensive earbuds. Sofar, I’ve yet to try an in-line amp that’s worth what I paid for it. This guy is $20 and it does the job much better. I will never buy an Apple dongle or in-line "amplifier" again for an iPhone X series where there is no jack. This is clearly the way to go. Granted, there is no way to charge and have this control at the same time, but I guess this is a problem with the MFI spec from Apple. It's crappy, but no fault of this vendor. (It’d be great if Apple could be less thick about thinks like this and realize that people don’t always want to use a charge pad. It’s so silly.)The design of this dongle is super rugged and I have not had any issues with distortion or phone problems. It seems just as reliable as the Apple dongle on an iPhone XS Max at minimum. I'm buying a couple more just to have them around since I hate not having my dongle nearby. (Tee-hee.) I’d just rather not have to pay the dongle tax to Apple anymore. They do wear out. Also, I highly recommend the ERJIGO KZ ZS6 earbuds: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0756WVBZ9 as they pair incredibly with this dongle even at high volumes. I couldn’t believe that they sounded better on this than a fancy in-line amp! They sound as good or better than my UE Triple Fi 10's on the standard Apple dongle! For a total spend of $70 you are getting your money's worth and then some! Note, the fit of the Triple Fi is definitely superior to pretty much any earbud made, not to mention their noise-blocking capabilities. I doubt anyone will beat them there, but they are discontinued. (Thanks, Logitech.)

Bought 2. Both defective.
Appears to be very sturdy, but, 1 of the 2 was defective - No audio at all. 2nd one failed on 2nd day. Audio drops out repeatedly as though the contacts in the female jack receptacle are loose. Returned.
