Shadow of the Tomb Raider - Path of the Apocalypse

Perfect read!
Absolutely amazing read! After playing all Tomb Raider’s recent games, I didn’t think about getting a book, but I am so glad I did. The story was an amazing read full of action and adrenaline pumping fights. Though I do think if you haven’t played Shadow of Tomb Raider, you might be a bit confused on the storyline since it puts you right in the middle of the game’s plot.

Great companion novel to game!
The shipping on my book was very fast and I was able to jump into the novel immediately.Much like the game, Path of the Apocalypse has wonderful pacing and offers insight into cultures I am unfamiliar with. It took a while for me to get used to the fact that there were no chapters in this book, however you soon realize there’s no need for them! You’ll be flying through this book like it’s the latest episode of a show. I appreciate the immersive descriptions and realistic dialogue/emotions in each segment. As a final feather in the hat of the author: thank you for not sexualizing Lara in the text! I know it may not seem important to other readers, but it’s enjoyable to consume a novel that doesn’t insult the intelligence of its readers. Compared to the three previous Tomb Raider novels, this one is a clear cut above the rest.

Good with context, confusing with out
Like other novels based on video games, the reader must have context. Since I never played the Tomb Raider video games, the story seemed broken and incomplete. Felt like this is a second book in a trilogy and I haven't read the first nor the third book. Reading other reviews, it seems like this story took place in between two video games and I don't know which two. The story started after some catastrophic tsunami event caused by Lara Croft (apparently, this was in a video game). The book just kind of ended and the story is continued in another Tomb Raider game. Really 3.5 stars but I rounded up to 4. With context, this is a fun adventure.

Side story spliced into first quarter of the game
-This was a fun read that I looked forward to finishing.-Story is a new addition to the games' story; retells opening of game to 15% in, and adds a diversion tale, then drops you back to continue in the game.I felt the author fully understood and continued not only the characters of the series but also little nuances of the games when Lara is off exploring. It made me feel like the author was a fan and had played the games to some degree. This book begins in parallel with the game for a short bit and finds a pretty perfect point to squeeze in a side story before ending the book back where the game story would pick back up. Although there were little new revelations as applied to the continuing game story (that would be hard to do anyways) this read added a fun adventure that I am happy to have gone on through the eyes of Lara, Jonah, and even of her antagonists.

A must read if you played Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
Just finished this book. Honestly WAY better than thousand immortals by 1000 miles. The story takes place right after the tsunami in Cozumel and the plane ride to Peru. This story would have been nice if it were part of the game or a well done DLC. The story was very well written. Combat kept me on my seat and of course Lara kicks ass. You get the perspective of a few Trinity members, Lara, Jonah, Miguel (the pilot in the game). Would like more stories from this author. If you played the game, read it! If you haven't touched the series, I still feel it would be interesting though you'd miss a few things

Decent enough story, though it doesn't add much to the game.
Nothing mind blowing here. It's a nice quick easy read. I collect video game novels, and while this one doesn't really stand out that much, I've read much worse. Even as far as other Tomb Raider novels go, I've read worse!

Excellentante!
As a person who has read many, many video game tie in novels (Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Wing Commander, Republic Commando) I found this novel to be extraordinary. It captured Lara & Jonah perfectly and it gave some insight into those who work for Trinity. Its story was perfectly placed in relation to the game and the locations were very fleshed out and enjoyable.I wish there were more novels for Lara/Tomb Raider on the way by this author, as she did a fantastic job and I couldn't stop reading when I wasn't playing SotTR.

Young Lara At Her Best...
This book was fantastic start to finish I was fully immersed when reading it as having played the latest TR game Shadow Of The Tomb Raider a while back and fully completing it it was fresh in my mind so I enjoyed reading this adaptation of the beloved Lara Croft. Characters were fleshed out nicely and the pacing was good. I recommend this title if you love the Tomb Raider games or franchise for that matter.
