Great traditional folder.
This is a really beautiful knife. I had the Selkirk fixed blade version and liked it so much I gave the folder a try.As it turns out I think I like the folder better than its larger fixed blade brother. The woodwork on the handle is a piece of art. It has the standard dependable Buck blade. It isn't the fastest/easiest one hand opener but it works fine.My knife collection includes most of the high-end production name brands and the Buck holds it own in comparison. It seems like there is a growing trend towards "tactical" and bushcraft designs. The Selkirk folder has a refreshing timeless look and feel.I usually use my knives for awhile before I offer up a rating but I haven't had the opportunity to use this folder in the field. The Selkirk fixed blade has been an excellent hunting knife. This is basically a smaller/folder version so I would expect it to fare well. The knife's quality exceeds the selling price so it's a great value. The Buck is made in China but I can't find any compromises in the materials or build quality.Sorry about the long-winded review.

Buck has amazed me again with their flawlessness to their knives
Buck has amazed me again with their flawlessness to their knives. the selkirk is super sharp out of the box, i mean razor sharp!!! the knife is centered nicely, smooth deployment. hefty knife, but can be handled by most. full flat grind is nice, satin finish is nice, the lock up is very tight, no movement at all. i haven't used the striker system that comes with it yet, but i am optimistic about the combo, but love it still. the belt loop is limited as to how big your belt is. that is something to watch out for. if you have a wide belt it probably wont go thru.i think it's about an one inch. other than that. this knife was priced it over 80 dollars 3months ago and now is down to less than 50. must buy!!!! if you dont like buck at all, your missing out on a wonderful buy! solid knife for cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An excellent compact bushcraft knife
I own several very nice custom-made bushcraft knives, as well as several Morakniv's. This one intrigued me (as I also own some nice Buck knives I use for field dressing deer) and decided to give it a try. I actually really like it. I won't use it to baton wood (real small pieces of wood for starting fires, definitely). Out of the box it was extremely sharp, but it took me quite a while to figure that out. Why? Because I could not get the knife out of the kydex sheath without hooking it up to my truck, with a tow strap, and putting it in 4WD low. I did figure out that you just have to loosen a sheath tension screw and that solved that problem.Anyway, let me briefly run down what I had to do to liken it to my needs/tastes.1. I took my belt sander and sharpened the top of the spine so that I can use that part for striking the Ferrocerium rod.2. For some reason, in the belt loop section of the sheath, there was this plastic piece mounted in the middle which prevented me from using any of the belts I had. Only a very thin belt would fit. So I had to unscrew and disassemble the entire sheath in order to remove it. Of course I didn't pay attention to how I took it apart so I had to look at YouTube reviews of the knife/sheath to see what it looked like from every angle in order to put it back together correctly (never do this stuff at night when you're tired).I've since used it on two day hikes, mainly for processing small wood for starting my Solo stove. Even though I prefer a Scandi grind, this knife did an amazing job feathering sticks and scraping fine shavings in order to start the fire with the Ferrocerium rod. I love that is short and compact when in the sheath, as it doesn't catch on my seat when driving in my truck. And as other folks have commented, it feels really good in your hand. It is heavy which I love, very sturdy. The reasons I gave it a 4 out of 5 is not necessarily negative or any fault of the knife. It is just what I found using it versus a fixed-blade bushcraft knife. Those reasons are:1. I can barely remove the knife with one hand. I have to reach over and put my left hand on top of the belt loop portion of the sheath, then pull it out with my right hand. That is even with the tension screw loosened as much as it will go. This is okay, because it doesn't fall out, but kind of a nuisance. Hopefully the more I use it, the sheath will "wear out" a bit so it is not as difficult to remove.2. Not a fan of the small Ferrocerium rod and the holder portion of the sheath. I wish the diameter was larger so I could put a standard-size Ferrocerium in it. But it does throw sparks very well and I've started a few fires with it easily.3. The knife opens very easy with one hand, but near impossible to close it with one hand. Again, not a deal breaker, but another nuisance. I have to use my left thumb to press down the blade lock lever in order to close it.I still recommend this knife. Hope this helps!

Just great.
Liked the fixed blade Selkirk so much that i bought the folder as well.Beautiful knife, a fusion between modern and classic.Very well made - the scales and liners fit perfectly,no gaps, zero blade play, well centered blade, solid liner lock, feels heavy duty for hard cutting. It is not a large knife but is still a full four finger grip.Extremely comfortable handle with no hot spots especially if you remove the pocket clip. The full flat grind blade is a great slicer. It is thicker and heavier than many folders but i like this.It feels like a very solid folding hunting knife.Open pillar construction for easy cleaning. It says China on it, but yet 30$ for a rock solid ,great quality knife.

This knife is almost indestructible.
I have been using Buck knives for many years because of their quality blade, durability, and guarantee. I have several different Buck blades and only had one fail. Buck Knives replaced the failed blade, no questions asked. I use this folder as my standard every day carry utility knife (the state I live in has strict carry laws for fixed blades, but no restriction on folders). The other reason is the blade holds a razor sharp edge and is somewhat easy to sharpen when needed. The blade is easy to deploy and retract with one hand, which is the finishing touch on an every day carry blade.

Perfect EDC knife
This knife has got to Easily be one of my favorite knives from Buck. Like they always say this knife comes razor sharp, I can literally shave with it. Also feels sturdy in the hand and opens and closes with ease. it is made in China but assembled in the USA. Great EDC knife and has a premium look for a great price. Yes I would highly recommend !!!!
