Umarex Smith & Wesson M&P 40 .177 Caliber BB Gun Air Pistol, Dark Earth Brown, Standard Action

let me start with saying I am a certified pistol instructor and range safety officer. I work full time as a patrol officer and have been shooting all types of firearms for a long time. These are great. I purchased one to help a new adult pistol shooter grasp the concepts of safety and pretty much had the intention of settling for any shortcomings involving the consistency of the characteristics of actually shooting. Well, this thing turned out to be an awesome tool to teach with and have fun with. Not only is it about as safe as something dangerous can get without being an airoft gun, but it can provide enough consistency shooting to reinforce the basic concepts of pistol handling. It fits into a blackhawk serpa holster for smith and wesson m&p series pistols allowing it to be further utilized as a training aid in holster discipline. The sights are legit and can be trusted to properly represent what a real pistol is going to look like while aiming. Out to about 10 yards, this thing provides trustworthy feedback in trigger critique. I could go on and on. Long story short, I have two now, my nephews have learned on these, and I have several extra magazine, have shot over 6000 bb's through them and they have provided days on end of great active fun, excellent learning opportunities, and low cost practice of grip, sight picture and sight alignment, and proper safety protocol in a very affordable and safe manner.

I love the pistol. The sights are great, i especially love the green glowing sight. The handle and slide out for inserting CO2, if you put too much pull, it can pop off, which is a feature in case you need to have more hand movement on the screw for the CO2 capsule. Build quality is great, ergonomic and beginner friendly. Magazine is easy to load, and is a slim stick type of magazine (due to the handle). The safety on the right side is an issue. You cant really put this in a designated holster for the same handgun. So I recommend flexible or fabric based holsters. The slide does not rack back. The packaging is that evil sharp plastic, get a scissor or razor based knife ready. Comes with a manual (recommend reading it all before handling) and the pistol with magazine. Its also a great training gun, since its realistic enough to use for the 4 rules on firearms. I recommend this airgun, but I will warn you that this is NOT A TOY. Respect this airgun as if it was a real firearm. Thank you Umarex, and I will be buying from you guys again!

The media could not be loaded. Update:I bought a 2 pack of replacement clips for this BB gun and now the bb gun shoots straight like it should. Most people get a good bb magazine with their purchase, but I was unlucky. The original clip still shoots bbs in all different directions, but there is nothing wrong with the bb gun.I have tried several different clips with this gun and 1 clip shoots really really accurate, 2 shoot reasonablly accurate, and the one that came with it shoots all over the place. I have changed my review from 1 star to 4 stars because I can now get it to shoot straight with the replacement clips. I am still taking off 1 star because each clip shoots different. My advice is to get extra clips and test each one for accuracy. If they shoot straight and feed correctly, keep them, but if they don't, return the ones that are not satisfactory. If you get a BB gun that doesn't shoot straight like I did, just order a 2 pack of the extra bb magazines for this gun. Note: these extra bb magazines are recommended by Amazon for this gun and they also work great in my Crosman C11 bb gun.As for the people who complain about it being hard to screw in the CO2 and the gas leaking because of the way the handle opens, try taking the handle off carefully by gently pulling one side up and it pops off and goes back on. See attached pictures and video.Original review:This has to be the most inaccurate bb gun I have ever shot. The BBs don't shoot straight out of the barrel, instead they hit up, down, right and left, basically everywhere but where I am aiming. When shooting at a circle from 12 feet away, they are hitting all around the edges of the circle, but never in the center. With my other BB guns, even if the sights are off, the BBs hit in the same place and I am able to adjust my aim and shoot the center out of the target. It does, however, shoot with great power (over 410 fps) and is easy to work and the trigger pull is nice. It even looks pretty and like a real gun. This thing is kinda worthless as a BB gun for shooting things because it will not shoot the BBs out straight. The BBs curve in all different directions, so there is no way to adjust my aim. One shot will be high, the next low, the next up and to the right and then the next one curves to the left. By far this is the most inaccurate BB gun I have ever seen, but it sure does look nice and realistic. I love the fiber optic sights, too.

A real nice bb pistol for the money! When I seen that it was made in overseas I started to have my doubts, but S&W must have enforced there usual high standards. The fit & finish is very good. The only minor complaint I have is that the thumb screw that tightens the CO2 can is a bit small. But, there again it only turns very little to pierce and seal the Co2 can in place. Some type of lever action would be much better but I guess it is what it is. It is very accurate for a bb pistol., and its a ball to shoot! DON'T forget to put a drop of PELLET GUN OIL on top of the Co2 cyl when you load it into the handle. Use ONLY oil that is made for air pistols! 3 in 1 will wreck the seals and it will not hold pressure (found this out the hard way w/ my old Crossman 760)!I do shoot comp pistol matches and I can say that it fits and feels close to a real pistol in your hand.I purchased it to run off a few bold fox's that have been looking at my dog Fred like he was there dinner snack when I walk him at night. Rather than touch off my 45 or even a 22 at night - firing this will go unnoticed.Remember! This hurls them down range at 480 fps. TREAT IT AS IF IT WERE A REAL FIREARM!!!
