The information is more valuable than the parts.
Anyone with the raw felt could cut functional facsimiles that would work just as well. It certainly saves time to buy it though and this kit is complete. What makes this kit worth the cost is not the felt. It is the two books that come with it. One book gives very detailed step by step instructions to disassemble and reassemble your SBL that includes photos to complement the factory diagrams. It starts with pre-purchase tips on evaluating a lathe to completing a restoration. The second book is a supplement to the venerable "How to Run a Lathe." The book covers the basics of setup and maintenance from a modern perspective that the old book cannot offer for obvious reasons. The information is concise, but useful and well worth a read even for veteran SBL users. A couple of online references are no longer available, but that is an understandable inevitability of printed materials pointing the user to a website that can disappear before the book is printed.

Good Stuff
Works well, components are high quality. The manual that comes with the kit is an awesome tool in its own right and is easy to understand, even for someone new to disassembling and refreshing a lathe.

Hardly a rebuild kit just felt oil wicks and an adequate book, read the book before doing anything it’s not as consise as it could be die cut felts are adequate but what goes where leaves much to be desired
