Q: How smooth or slick is the surface?

Well, it is really (at 35" +) a desk pad, although a computer mouse will perform just fine. Actually it is not "smooth" at all. The surface is impressed with thousands of tiny dimples, if you look closely you will see them and can feel them. They provide very firm and useful friction. If you want to write or draw on a piece of paper on it, you might want to have a couple of sheets under it. The underside has a felt like surface which does the job of keeping the pad from sliding around as advertised. It doesn't move at all unless you intend it to do so. For my use, it is just right, and recommend it to anyone.

The one I purchased was red, not burgandy.

Q: Can the zoresyn 3xl mouse pad be trimmed? my desk measures 47.2 by 23 inches, about half of an inch larger than pad.

I suppose you could, but it has stitching and an embossed logo around the edges that you would lose. It doesn't look like they are strictly necessary though.

From 1 to 10 for smooth value, I would give it a solid 4, is not smoot at all, and if you are no wearing long sleeve, you will have sticky issues with the arm you use for your mouse after 5 min, looks very nice though
