I recently picked up the NYX Butter Gloss in the shade Summer Fruit, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite go-to lip products for the past 4 years. The texture is exactly what you’d hope for in a gloss. It’s lightweight, buttery, and non sticky. It glides on effortlessly and leaves my lips feeling soft and moisturized. The color is a beautiful rich fuchsia pink with a subtle, juicy shine. It’s perfect for everyday wear when you want a pop of color without going over the top. I love pairing it with a shiny gloss for even more shine. As with most glosses, you’ll need to reapply after eating or drinking, but I don’t mind since it’s so easy to throw in your bag and freshen up. I've been a Butter Gloss fanatic forever, so I usually purchase this several times a year. Unfortunately, NYX has discontinued some of my all time favorite colors, so I've been forced to try and find alternatives in their current line up. One of the things that first drew me to Butter Gloss is that it was originally a pretty sheer formulation that offered a nice color payoff while still retaining a sheerness that prevented garishness. Some of the newer colors I've tried had way more opacity than I'm used to (and are more like the Intense Butter Gloss, if NYX still makes that?), so my search continues. However, I did come across this shade and while it's not quite what I usually go for, it's close enough to be a pinch hitter until NYX either comes out with a few colors closer to what I prefer, or someone else comes out with something comparable. What I love about Butter Gloss: It's lightweight. It never feels sticky. It has really nice staying power for a lip gloss. A lot of the colors are sheer washes of color, giving you nice color payoff without being overwhelming. It's so economical that you can keep one in every car and purse you own - and still not break the bank. It has a nicer formulation than far pricier options. It doesn't have a noticeable smell or taste (like, for instance, NYX Milky Gloss, which has both and not in a good way). If you haven't tried Butter Gloss before, find a shade you love and try it. I keep a stockpile in with my beauty products and usually do a bulk purchase when I find a color that I really like, because NYX discontinues colors and changes things up now and again.

I normally shy away from lip glosses because so many of them feel just like thick, sticky goop that’ll stick to your hair. I also didn’t really think much of the name “butter gloss” because people will literally call any makeup product buttery these days. But because of the price point and the many promising reviews I’d seen online, I decided it wouldn’t hurt to try it out for myself. They weren’t kidding: this stuff both looks good AND feels good on the lips! I keep reapplying it not because the color’s gone, not because it dried out my lips, but because it feels good to put on (smells nice too, haha). In this picture I’m wearing the Summer Fruit gloss with the lip liner they suggest as a color match, the Slim Lip Pencil in 816 Fuschia, which I also recommend.
